A&E has suspended Phil Robertson from the show indefinitely.

You guys are weak. The conservative forum I lurk on has three threads on this.
Funny thing . . . Pope Francis and the RCC have the same beliefs as Phil Robertson and Pope Francis was named man of the year by the Advocate magazine.
Glad the redneck got the boot. Now if we can get his evil twin Pat to STFU too it would be a much better world.
And surprise, surprise...... they're republicans.

To complete his idiocy, he also makes racial slurs.
He says he's a product of the 60's and a former substance abuser who found Christ. He traded one addiction for another. The guy is a complete moron. I see why Sarah Palin is a fan of the show. Uneducated pinheads can relate to each other.
"I would never treat anyone with disrespect just because they are different from me. We are all created by the Almighty and like Him, I love all of humanity. We would all be better off if we loved God and loved each other."

Funny thing . . . Pope Francis and the RCC have the same beliefs as Phil Robertson and Pope Francis was named 'Man of the Year' by the Advocate magazine.
Except... Archie Bunker was funny (and fictitious).I'm going to be the first to admit this: not only do I watch the show, I actually like it. It helps when you've grown up around people like them, but were never really a part of their culture. These guys are just your run of the mill rednecks. They like to hunt, blow stuff up, hate working, wear camo everyday, and value their beards as much as they do their mothers. It's funny seeing all the dumb stuff they get themselves into. I'm not sure where the "hyper-religious" view of the Robertsons came from, unless praying before meals counts as that all of sudden.
As for Phil, lol, he's Archie Bunker. So what? At least he's never going to talk about it again, unlike the Pope. Besides, we have no idea what any of his kids and grandkids (who the show really revolves around) thinks about gays, and I seem to remember Willie doing some commercial for a Democratic Senator which is probably why JQ is all of sudden pretending he's never heard of these guys!![]()
It's no big deal. He has the right to voice his prejudice. A&E has the right to suspend him. GLAAD has the right to fulminate. I have the right to not watch the show (which I don't).
Better to know the enemy than not.
Tempest. Teapot.

I will give him credit for not just singling us out, he called out others for a change. " Neither the adulterers, the idolaters, the male prostitutes, the homosexual offenders, the greedy, the drunkards, the slanderers, the swindlers -- they won’t inherit the kingdom of God." I wonder if we have to pay an inheritance tax on the kingdom and I wonder about female prostitutes. Most of his viewers fit in views of sin.

This.

You are flat out wrong on this.

This probably should be posted as comedy, but here goes anyway:
Sarah Palin Defends 'Duck Dynasty' Star's Anti-Gay Comments As Free Speech

Free Speech?
If I say I want to take a shit in Palin's mouth, is that free speech too?![]()
Except... Archie Bunker was funny (and fictitious).
My post was about my free speech, not Martin Bashir's.You supported Bashir is saying what he said.
Does free speech depend on the person that's talking?
The truest free speech advocates support the rights of individuals to state things that may even be coarse, wrong, insensitive or insulting. Others then can exercise that precious right to condemn bad speech, to call people to account for it. Bashir was wrong. So is Robertson.... I think both deserve to be condemned.
I really had to shake my head at the stuff Roberson was saying... not just about gays but a lot of other different groups that were broad brushes that did not take into account any shades of grey, any nuance, any really deep understanding. Hell, I know I'm not an intellectual heavyweight but I can nuance, can understand that things are complex.... for goodness sakes Christians too have done horrible things in the name of God. If rededicating himself to Christianity saved him from self destructing as a youth that's great but so many of these evangelical Christians don't seem to read the words of Jesus Christ that well....they listen more to warped preachers and judgmental communities and form their "Christianity" from a twisting of the actual faith.
The real power freedom of speech imparts is that of promoting dialogue, speech in response.... to challenge, criticize, educate when that speech is wrongheaded, misguided. I don't think Robertson is hateful...that word is thrown around liberally, so to speak.... I do think he's misguided, ignorant and erroneous. Should he lose his show? I don't really know....but he absolutely should have to face questions, understand the consequences of the power words have. We can put that power as well to positive use.
