1) He's apologized, virtually immediately

2) English is not his first language, nor is he on an American reality show depicting "ordinary American life" with millions of braindead fans identifying with him and feeling that he is representing their lifestyle or viewpoint on television as with rednecks and Duck Dynasty.

Because there is in my mind no equivalency between the way he's seen on television vs. the way Duck Dynasty is seen on television. People watch The Bachelor primarily to see the competition and the cattiness of the women competing, they do not watch it because they personally identify with the bachelor and feel he represents them and their viewpoints. It's clear, especially with the outpouring of support and the types of comments people made defending Duck Dynasty after the anti-gay and anti-black comments, that people support him because they feel he's representing (and legitimizing) their bigoted worldview as an ordinary part of American life. The comments from supporters all end up sounding something like "We support you, we stand for family values too!" Family values somehow never has any definition I can perceive other than being a coded term for being anti-gay.
