Dueling Diva's: Madonna, Mariah, Celine, Janet, Whitney

This is a really interesting thread. Personally, I am all about Madonna but I'm not one of those brain-washed Madonna fans ('vs' the brain-washed Mariah, Janet, Britney, etc. fans). But I gotta ask prs015 why he/she chose to leave off Alicia Keys and Faith Hill ... WTF ...

These are two of the top 5 best-selling female singers of this decade and they have new product coming out in the fall.

Anyways, that gorgeous hunk DANNO did a good job deducing what he thinks will play out --- LOL even if it's in Mariah's favor (imagine!). I have looked up Grammy awards for our divas and album sales. Here we go fellas ... and whatevas ...

5) JANET JACKSON
(5 Grammys)
I was shocked that Jackson has never had a diamond album
(sales of more than 10 million)
This chick is obviously a singles artist. She's never had an album
sell more than 6 million. Her total sales are 27 million. The lovely
Jackson clanster sabotaged her career with nipplegate.

4) WHITNEY HOUSTON
(6 Grammys)
She is the best female singer EVER!!!!
But you can't count the incredible sales of "The Bodyguard,"
"Waiting To Exhale," and "The Preacher's Wife" because she
sung less than 50% on those. I don't know. She is using
the No. 1 pop artist of the year to produce her album (Akon).
I just hope it's personal and not 'trendy.'

3) CELINE DION
(5 Grammys)
The chick hasn't had a top ten single in seven years. Can't blame
her for using Timbaland. She has a great voice; don't discount
her.

2) MADONNA
(6 Grammys).
She's sold 64 million albums. She's had 36 top 10 singles. No
woman in rock history even comes close. Only one ACT has had
more: Elvis Presley, with 38

1) MARIAH CAREY
(5 Grammys)
68 million albums sold in the U.S. alone. One of the ten best
voices EVER!!! Her next album will be full of sappy love songs
in the vein of "One Sweet Day" and "We Belong Together." And
you know what? We'll still love her for that.

39 here we come!;)

Yeah, I feel ya Thom, but it's gonna take an album (or two) in today's Pussycat Dolls/Akon musical society before Lady M beats Elvis Presley's record but she is already the
Queen in order of top 10's:

1) MADONNA
36 Top 10 Singles (1984-2006)

2) JANET JACKSON
27 Top 10 Singles (1986-2001)

3) MARIAH CAREY
24 Top 10 Singles (1990-2006)

I agree with you effortless ... just watch ... annie will be the one collecting the grammies... I cant wait til oct 2!!!!

This one is tough for me for several reasons, but let's get the easy part over with first. Celine doesn't cut it for me. The girl can definitely sing and probably sings with more proper technique than the others but something about her voice grates my nerves.

Janet's voice pales in comparison to Whitney, Celine and Mariah but she's cool. Her music has been better than her voice and that's helped her immensely. Also, she's worked the whole image thing to her advantage.....for the most part.

Madonna - Well Madonna is Madonna. She's got the marketing savvy going on and knows how to sell herself. Usually has good music but not extraordinary music. She's an icon and will continue to do well.

Then there's Whitney and Mariah. Both have had stellar careers and both have great voices. Whitney peaked with The Bodyguard album. She's done nothing before or since that is better than those songs for that album. But pretty much since she hooked up with Bobby Brown she's been a train wreck. I wish her the best and hope she pulls out of the mire. Mariah was the best at one time. Early '90s Mariah was awesome. Her voice isn't what it used to be but she writes a lot of good music. In my heart, I just can't help rooting for her to continue to dominate. Her early stuff brought so much to me that I can't quit pulling for her. I like most of the Emancipation of Mimi songs but her image now is so different from her earlier career. Love her but don't like the oversold sex image. If you have as much talent as Mariah, you don't need to dress so skanky to validate yourself.

So it's between Mariah and Whitney for me.

MARIAH!!!!!!!! :D She is so awesome. And i'd pick her over the rest...even though I love Janet too!

JANET!!!!!! I love all her albums (even '20 Y.O' lol), and I'm so excited to hear her next album :):):)

I'm never, EVER gonna count Janet out, no matter how much she flops. She'll come back one day. I really believe it.

I'm also excited to hear what Mariah's new CD ("The Emancipation of Mimi" is kick-ass, I don't care what you haters say!) :):)

And I'm interested to her Whitney's new CD, but I'm not sure what to expect.

Madonna - "Confessions" gets stale after the first 4 or 5 songs, so I can wait for her next CD.

Celine - So 90's.

LOL I just noticed your avatar ... wonder if anyone else will pick up on that

Whitney- an absolute trainwreck. All of her singles sound exactly the same! Time to get new songwriters since she can't even write her own. I wonder... now that she wears dentures, do you think she'll sound the same?
Mariah- she has the Whitney curse, boring "love songs" that all sound the same. She went from 1989 to 2004 without making a decent album until 2005's "Mimi". Think she's on the right track.
Celine- incredible voice but incredibly boring. Let's just leave her to the nursing home folks.
Janet- poor misguided Janet. In her 40's and still making the dumb singles she had in the 80's. Let's face it, she's always been the poor man's Madonna. Always trying to make do with the leftovers of a real superstar.
Madonna- singer, songwriter, dancer, ultimate entertainer. This woman's got it all. She's the only real innovator in this bunch. While a few may be remembered for record sales, Madonna is the only true ICON in an era when that title is so overused. In generations from now, she will be the only one to go down in history. P.S. can't wait for the new CD!:D

^ Oh so its not just Britney you trash talk, you disrespect the divas as well.

and that mariah (fat slut) is only popular in america. she screams when she "sings" and her voice is the worst voice ever .. she is anoying fat lady

Boys, boys...we don't have to bash the other ladies just because we like one more than the others.

I'm personally a long-time Janet fan, so I'm always rooting for her. I'd love to see her comeback in a big way, which I think will happen when she starts focusing on making great music and not trying to keep up with the Rhiannas, Beyonces, and Ciaras. She has proven herself many times in the past, so I don't know what her deal is.

Early guesses...

Mariah - 3x platinum
Madonna - 2x platinum
Celine - 2x platinum
Whitney - Platinum
Janet - Gold

You can't argue with the facts... Madonna is bigger than jesus... every album she puts out is different from the last in some way, shape, or form... so you know people will be dying to hear what she creates next....

As for Whitney... she's going to have to do a lot to get out of the mess she's in.. and redeem herself... but good luck to her.

Janet... God love her she tries...

Celine... Great for the "older" generation but not so good for the younger audience.

Mariah.... Screeching into a microphone doesn't constitute music... but she will sell plenty of records... of course it will be the same people who picked up William Hung's cd... theres no accounting for bad taste in the states...
