yep a real dummy. purchased a bedroom sized lcd hd tv dvd combo. Fantastic picture, built into the machine are a pair of lousy speakers. Have a great pair of Bose speakers I would like to use. Thought I could just plug em in. Nope, Users manual says more ampliification needed. So down to Radio Shack I shall go. What should I ask for when I talk to the shack guy. Dont want a big surround system for my little bedroom. Just the two Boses. thanks...........

Are those Bose speakers connected to a stereo system?

Just rout the audio output of the TV to an auxiliary input of your stereo system (if you've got one). Your stereo system IS your amplifier.

Otherwise, you will need something like this (out of stock):

or this (also out of stock - RS is terrible that way):

Please provide us with the model number of the Bose device(s) you have. Some of their speakers are active and some passive - it's important to know which.

The Bose speakers are labeled "compatible with receivers/amplifiers 10-120 w/channel impedance 8hms. iec power rating 60 w/ch. copywright 1996" They are not powered so I guess inactive? Thanks for your help. Richard

You're definitely going to need a conventional amplifier or receiver. All you need is a stereo amplifier or receiver. They're pretty common on eBay if you don't want to buy new. Actually, it might be very difficult to find a new stereo receiver.

Yup, as thermodynamics says, you just need a little stereo amplifier or receiver. (A receiver is an amplifier that usually has multiple inputs and a radio receiver built in.)

Since you mentioned Radio Shack, here's a Sherwood Stereo reciever for $99.

Once again JUB guys came through. Just ordered the Sherwood amp from amazon....Richard
