It's about time to clean the fan in my laptop (HP Pavilion g6), and I've noticed something. You have to take the entire laptop apart to access the fan! It would be easier to get into Area 51!
With my old Acer, you'd just remove one panel, and there it was. Why couldn't HP have designed this laptop like that? I'm not even gonna bother trying, I'll just use a Dustbuster.

I had a Dell that was easy to clean too. One panel at the bottom exposed all the internals, made upgrading and cleaning a breeze. I have a closed off Samsung now (which is on its way out, poor thing). Buy a can of compressed air and use it to blast the dust out. Using a vacuum cleaner will not remove the dust. A short, sharp blast of compressed air will.

Yea, I just used the Dustbuster on it, and my laptop fan still sounds like an outboard motor. I'll get a can of compressed air, because there's no way I'm gonna try to open it lol

If you don't want to take the thing apart, take it to someone who will.

Using a vacuum cleaner is dangerous as you risk frying delicate parts with static electricity.

And it won't do a lot of good, anyway. The crap that builds up on the inside of those vents is like a sheet of felt.

Using compressed air will only push all of that crap back into the unit, and that could cause more problems with heat, or even short out small circuits on the motherboard.

What is more acceptable to your budget, the cost of a good cleaning, or the cost of a new laptop?

I just happen to have opened my computer recently to clean it. I dont know why I used a feather duster to clean it.

Do not open the computer unless you are comfortable doing so. Remember to touch something metal to ground yourself

I think it comes that way. I have two, one broke so I bought another and it was rainbow too. Maybe gays make them ;-)

If you are using a vacuum cleaner or canned air always block the fan so that it can't move.
