If you didn't watch the Oscars tonight you missed a very beautiful speech by Dustin Lance Black for Best Original Screenplay and I thought I'd post it for all of you. Ironically TownHall.com's (a very conservative website) youtube account is the one that posted it, but that hasn't stopped the comments on it from being overwhelmingly positive.

A really great and nice guy. I'm so thrilled for his success.

Wow! Wow! Wow!

Indeed, thank you God for giving us Harvey Milk!!

What a wonderful testament to our sexuality, to our wonderful people who are treated like second-handed citizens in the United States!

Yes, like he said, one of these days we too, Gays of the U.S. will also get the rights granted to us by God and the Constitution of the U.S.

Sorry, I'm choking up/tearing up as I write these words and offer too to our Gay brethren (GLBT's) to stay focused and don't despair!(*8*)

His speech was wonderful. I also noticed the white knot he was wearing on his lapel, which was cool.

For me the most moving part of his speech was, "I wanna thank my mom, who has always loved me for who I am, even when there was pressure not to." I wish him so, so much luck in the future.

I'm, generally speaking, emotionless and I got teared up during that.

Well, assuming either that he actually wrote the best original screenplay or that all the nominees were just as worthy, the award seems very well placed.

Whether or not he is political in other activities that he's involved in, I like the fact that his speech was very well, simple, and clear to avoid controversy.

Simply proved he's a straightforward person that does not take advantage of other's. A very well and honest man.

"If Harvey had not been taken from us 30 years ago, I think he would want me to say to all the gay and lesbian kids out there tonight who have been told they are less than by the churches, by the government, by their families, that you are beautiful, wonderful creatures of value, and that no matter what anyone tells you, God does love you and that very soon, I promise you, you will have equal rights, federally, across this great nation of ours," Black said.

:=D::=D::=D:

...God bless him.

I watched it last night, and his speech was definately top 2, along with Kate Winslet's! Love them both!

Hard not to tear up during that!

Good to see enthusiastic cheering by Winslett and Mendes too!

If I were king that clip would be required viewing in every classroom across the land.

If I could have seen and heard something like that back when I was 12 or 13 that would have meant quite a lot to me.

I hope it reached and helped, if only in some small way, every kid watching who is just beginning to figure out that they aren't quite like the 'other kids'.

I'm not really political...but OMG...what a great moment!

I sort of remember hearing about a march on Washington in the spring....was I dreaming or is something going on? Anyone know? This might be my time to get....political!

That was incredible... very touching, and difficult to watch without getting an eye full of tears. God Bless Dustin Lance Black, and may Harvey Milk rest in peace knowing what a tremendeous impact he had in this world. We're not there yet, Harvey, but we're close!
