Recently, pushing the Open/Close button on the DVD player occasionally resulted in the DVD drawer opening and closing with one push. Today, it was every time I pushed the button. I actually had to hold the drawer open to put the DVD in. The same thing happened with remote Open/Close button.

Any suggestions on what I might do to remedy this? (It's a Toshiba player. Not a cheapo.)

Something similar happened a while back with my DVD player. Not long after the symptoms began, the damned thing would no longer open.

I have no idea what the problem may have been.

I donated it to the local thrift store (the electronics person there said she just might be able to get it in working order) and I found a DVD/VCR combination player there for just under $10. ..|

If you know anybody who's technologically inclined, you might ask them to open the DVD player and take a look inside to see if they can determine what the cause of the problem may be. They may be able to get it back in working order for you.

Best of luck!

If it doesn't open at all, you need to fiddle around in the reset hole with a needle or similar.

If opens and closes right away, I'm confused and want to go to bed now.

If it opens and closes right away, it usually means that the motor believes that something is blocking the tray. Check the mechanics .. maybe they are just filthy with dust or similar .. anything that could cause resistance to the movement could be the cause.

That's more or less what we determined when it happened with both the button on the machine and the button on the remote. It's past the warranty, so a simple cleaning may be in order.

I'm not really out anything. It was a gift several years ago.

I had a DVD player that would open and close the tray 3 times when you told it to open. Kinda like a dog circling 3 times before lying down.

I currently have a Samsung that about 2/3 of the way through most movies it will suddenly start displaying the French subtitles. The only way to get it to stop is to unplug it for about 10 minutes. But, that also clears the resume feature. (I've looked online for a firmware update, but there isn't one...I did find out I'm not the only one with this problem)

As for you machine, I'd try cleaning it to see if it helps. But to be honest I don't think it will.
