  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

Ear rings, do they cause homophobic reaction?

Ease up a bit, RB. I don't know the OP, but judging just by a couple of his posts, it sounds like he's new to it all. Possibly/probably closeted, perhaps unnerved and scared of it all. In which case, it's better to educate than to ridicule.

Lex

If so, I unreservedly apologize.

And recommend that the OP avoid:

except for evening.

Unless you wear lizard carcasses adorned with mandrakes which actually screech, no one would even give a damn.

Hell, I would pierce my ear if only the college didn't prohibit it :(

I wear earnings on each ear, since gauges are popular too I don't think anyone cares

Well I believe that wearing a regular ear ring/stud on your lobe is fine, and nobody would say anything, because it is what we have come to expect in both genders when we think of percings, HOWEVER, if a guy gets any other type of piercing-be it an industrial, helix, conch, daith, etc.-then yeah people start to wonder a bit more and more. Take for example my boyfriend's parents who started talking about me in a negative way when they saw that I have an industrial piercing on my left ear, but then again that's because they're narrow-minded individuals who don't have anything better to do. :D So it's two things, it depends on what piercing you have, and the individual him/herself.

I disagree. But then again I grew up in an area that was more cosmopolitan than smaller towns but less so than say San Francisco or New York. Earrings haven't had anything to do with being gay since I was in high school. Ever since Emo hit the scene, followed by the hipsters, its become totally mainstream. Like the fauxhawk.

I find plugs super attractive, but I'm acutely aware of the fact that it's really not cute when they take them out. Which is why I have the fake plug earrings.

Fuck them if they think like that. In Ancient Egypt only men wore earnings. Fight homophobia every way you can. Never be ashamed to wear what you want!

Jewelery isn't allowed for students in schools. Or at least not in Australia.

Males not allowed to wear earrings. Girls only allowed to wear studs at most, last I recall. Dangly earrings can be dangerous, OHS hazard, etc.

I used to have "several" piercings. I initially had a hoop through my right ear and a left nostril piercing. Both were removed when I got my job at A&F. In Australia, I got my left ear (when I say 'ear' I don't mean lobe either) pierced. When I started legit work at a finance company, that was removed but I still have my right nostril pierced. In fact today, I went to pick up more nose rings because I keep losing them.

I talked about this last night with someone and so, this pic is for him that I took today but I doubt he will realize it...
