i was flipping through the channels yesterday and stopped to watch a bit of the little league world series. some of those guys are majorly developed for 12-yr olds. a couple of my friends in high school didn't hit puberty till they were seniors. another friend told me when he was 20 that it wasn't fun being in 7th grade and "having everything." i was a little later than average, and self conscious in the locker rooms. i'm curious to hear from people who went through puberty early or late. how was it for you?

Late bloomer here.

It sucked.

I'm always getting comments on how young I look for being 21, but hey... I'll appreciate it when I'm older.

The self-esteem did take a hit when going through highschool and not being the "same" as the average that I've seen around the locker room, etc... IE: even lately, growing my sideburn and goatee look is a rather long process, but it looks good so far from what I've heard, lol.

I still can't grow a beard, and what does grow I only have to shave every 3 days or so. People think I shave my legs (which I don't)... I have no hair on my chest, stomach (no happy trail), and barely any armpit hair. Although, I must say... I did grow hair *ahem* downstairs... and that's about it. I swear, I'm still waiting for puberty to hit.

I guess I was neither early nor late, but I do remember wishing I had more hair. Like the other guy said, it probably means you're going to look younger longer. Get over any high school grief and enjoy it for a long time.

I was 21 years old before I shaved every day and then only because I was in the Army. The good news is everyone who judges my age by my looks thinks I'm 10 years younger than I am. Recently, when I told someone I was retiring in 10 years, they thought I must be rich or had won the Lotto.

Yea, I had to start shaving in the 8th grade. It kind of sucked! I hate facial hair and I hate shaving even more! I never wanted to 'look' older with hair on my face. I go through phases when I just let it all grow out and look like a caveman but I can't do that now that I actually have a real person job...

But no, being well developed everyewhere before all of my peers kind of sucked. I'm no attention whore when it comes to my body and so it always made me a little nervous when people would stare at me in the locker rooms. Now when they finally caught up to me... then it was a different story ;)

I was a late bloomer. Only started to shave doing my military training because of orders. My voice only deepened at around twenty two. Definitely not the best time of my life.

I was early. Way early. I started inbetween 3rd and 4th grade- when i first learned about puberty I noticed some of the signs. I kinda liked looking more mature than everyone else.

I started changing in the 7th grade. 8th grade was the first time I had to change in front of other guys. About a third of us already had pubic hair, along with other changes. I was shaving regularly by the 12th grade.

I was early.....By the end of the 6th grade I had hair all over. Since a lot of guys in Israel are hairy, my class mates were not at 12/13 years old

It sucked..It sucked big time...

I got treased ALL the time and had to shave at least every other day..
Had to put my tinker toys down long enough to shave...
Not Cool...

As a man today...guys either like hair or prefer smooth..
I tried shaving once and it took more maintenance than the highway system..
No more...I'm me...hair and all...

LOL

Puberty hit me, apparently. I can't say I noticed. It was rather anti-climactic, like most things are regarding me. I woke up one morning and discovered I had pubic hair, and thought "Oh, I've hit that puberty thing they're always talking about. Hm." and got on with my life. It seemed rather unimportant, in all honesty.

I was early at 12.
My seventh grade summer and year was hell.
My abuser entered the scene as soon as he saw I
could sport a hard on and a some pubes under the arms.
Shep+

I guess I was somewhat average to a little late (13 -14). I hit the big growth spurt in 8th grade, but still didn't have much in the way of pubic hair or facial hair. That came in 9th grade.

With regard the Little Leaguers, I noticed that many of them are 13 and they even said one kid was 14. I thought they had to be 12 when the season started. Maybe they changed the rules? Maybe the announcer was wrong when he said the kid was 14? Whatever the case, they sure seem to be bigger than ever. One kid is something like 6' 10" and over 200 pounds. I know kids are hitting puberty earlier and earlier, but with so many big kids it makes me wonder how many of these kids are a little older than they should be. I also wonder if there isn't a little recruiting going on for the teams that make it to this level. I still love Little League Baseball; it's far more interesting than MLB.

I walked into 6th grade (age 12) only an inch shorter than I am today, and "fully developed".

We started showering in gym class in 6th grade. And I have to admit that it was nice to already have the equipment. And it was also fun to see the rest of the guys grow too! Hehe!

I also had to start shaving at age 10 in the 5th grade. I wasn't the only one - I had a cousin who was in the same grade and he also had to start shaving at the same time that I did. When I got to Junior High, I decided to start shaving my legs also so that no one would know that I had an early puberty.

The traumatic part of it was that I felt that my childhood had ended prematurely, and I wasn't ready emotionally for that.

I feel like I had 2 puberties.
At 11, I was the only boy who started getting pubic hair and hair on my legs and under my arms.
It wasn't until I turned 25 or so when I started getting a happy trail and having to shave daily (as opposed to once a week) and getting chest hair.
If this happens every 14 years or so for me, I'm not looking forward to it growing out of my nose and ears when I'm 39.

cool thread ...

i guess i was in the middle ... about 15 onwards ...

i did remember some guys had become hairy when i was in sixth grade ... and i was maybe 11 ... 12
