Minor Earthquake Hits Toronto
TORONTO (AP) -- Dishes rattled and homes shook Wednesday morning as residents in Toronto and the surrounding area were shaken awake by a minor earthquake.
The Geological Survey of Canada confirmed that the rattling was a magnitude 3.0 earthquake that hit at 6:22 a.m. The quake was centred six miles northwest of Oshawa.
Janet Drysdale, of the Geological Survey of Canada, said a magnitude three earthquake can be felt by people, but other than shaking dishes, there's rarely any serious damage

Earthquake of 5.5 shakes Ontario and Quebec
23 minutes ago
By The Canadian Press
TORONTO - Windows rattled, paintings wobbled on the walls and bewildered central Canadians wondered what in the world was going on Tuesday as a "moderate earthquake" rocked residents of southern Ontario, Quebec and the northeastern United States.
The U.S. Geological Survey described the temblor as a magnitude 5.5 that occurred at 1:41 p.m. ET and was centred about 60 kilometres north of Ottawa, in western Quebec.
Residents in parts of upstate New York and Vermont also reported feeling the ground shake.
Within minutes of the quake, the Internet came alive with people saying they felt the earth rumble in cities across Ontario and Quebec, including Windsor, Toronto, Ottawa and Montreal.
The quake seemed to last for about 30 seconds in Ottawa and rattled downtown buildings, homes in west-end Ottawa and government offices across the Ottawa River in Gatineau, Que.
Witnesses in downtown Toronto also described feeling a prolonged tremor that shook desks, rattled bookshelves and caused paintings on walls to shake.
There were no immediate reports of damage or injury.
