Anyone else see this movie?

I really enjoyed it--except the ending which left me feeling unsatisfied. But the rest of the movie was great and Viggo Mortensen gave a great performance in it.

Just saw it this weekend. Completely agree with you. A great movie for anyone who likes tattoos, as they play a vital role in the Russian crime world. Definitely watch the DVD extras for a description of why.

And is it just me, or does the camera just love Naomi Watts? She is a beautiful blond, yes, but there's just something about her that even when she's disheveled, exhausted, dirty, etc., you just can't take your eyes off of her. Definite star quality--she reminds me of the great actresses of Hollywood's past.

Great movie. I for one liked the ending. Allows you to develop your own opinion without wrapping everything up all pretty with a bow for you. I think the ending says a lot more in the way that it is.

Well it kind of did wrap everything up in a bow, I mean it's obvious Viggo did take over the empire. I just wanted it to be more climactic. I wanted to see the boss being taken down.

Yep, saw this movie. I liked the hint that Kirill could be gay, and yet that didn't become a huge issue in the film.

The ending was alright, but it could've been better. I would've killed that kiss between Nikolai and Anna because I never felt like there were any sparks leading up to it, and it just seemed like another Hollywood thing to have two leads kiss.

And the bathouse fight scene was probably one of my favourites in a while. Eye stabbing.... eeeewww.

i for one actually liked the kiss. the movie did hint at a lot of things without ever really coming out and saying it-- just as you had mention Kirill could be gay. The kiss at the end totally fit. The two characters were obviously very connected. Viggo did care about Naomi's character as is shown through his actions. and it was very evident that Naomi's character had a liking for Viggo even through some of it was obviously shrouded in fear of him and the people around him. All in all it had a very real life feel to it... two people didnt have to wind up together like the typical hollywood blockbuster. Instead, they were two people passing each other through life, having that one moment to share as they knew it would never work for either one. we have all been there before-- possessing a liking for someone, sharing a kiss or intimate moment, to know it will never lead to anything further... i appreciated the focus on that...

had the two gotten together and lived happily ever after, i would have been pissed. would have ruined the entire movie!!!

Really enjoyed the film. Viggo was great and the fight scene set a new standard that is going to be hard for other directors to beat.

Cronenberg is like a favorite restaurant - some dishes will be better than others, but you always know you are going to have a good meal!

I did watch it with 3 friends. None of us believe he really entirely took over the empire. Seems more as though he took over for a temporary amount of time... mainly to make sure things were back in order before he could make his exit and leave it all to Kirill. Gotta go back and watch some of the conversations leading up to this... viggo telling kirill he will have everything he deserves... viggo telling his partner that after being tattooed, he couldnt just walk away... too much effort had been put into everything... etc etc.

I think the ending is pretty much wide open. Did he stay and take over for his own? Or did he stay and eventually disappear?

People keep saying it was hinted that Kirill was gay....but I thought it was pretty blaringly obvious, lol. That and that he had a crush on Viggo's character. Which he knew, and used to his advantage.

Well I couldn't care less whether he took it over permanently or temporarily, but the point was he DID take it over. Plus, wasn't he an undercover agent?

My point was just after all the crap Seymon (or whatever his name was) did, I would've liked to have seen him get taken down

Yes, he was an undercover agent. Hence why the question remains of what exactly did he do with the empire and those affecting it? And after all that had happen, it could even be debated that he had fallen deep enough into the entire circumstance to take over for his own... That pretty much sheds an entire new light of possbilities on things.

Go back and watch some of the dvd bonus features... The explanations given are pretty interesting, yet director says, he gives no answer.

I watched this movie yesterday and I thought it was excellent. I loved Viggo's character. There was nothing sexy about that bathhouse fight though.
But I did pick up on Kirill's sexuality very early on. Waaay before it was even addressed.
:)

Seriously. I thought it was gonna be hot but it really just turned my stomach. Him being nude didn't make it more hot it just made it that more gut wrenching 'cause I was afraid someone was gonna stab him in the balls.

I'm not a big fan of graphic violence. lol
