Ebola Comes to Atlanta

Ebola has NOT been confirmed in Atlanta! Two victims are being flown to the containment suites at Emory University; the suites were set up in conjunction with the CDC; there are only 4 such suites in the US. There is no risk to the general population.

What fear mongering has shown up in this thread.

This!

Providing two deathly sick American citizens with the best medical treatment in the world is the right thing to do. Their lives may be saved and with the experimental therapies and first rate supportive care the opportunity to learn how to save other lives is great. The thing at risk is their lives and us remaining in our fear and ignorance.

This is the right thing to do....not a Hollywood disaster movie.

They contracted the disease trying to help the people in Africa. They need modern care and we cannot expect some other country, such as Germany or Italy. Everyone will be very aware of the danger so there is virtually no risk of the disease escaping. We have a duty to take them back.

Is this where an experimental cure mutates the disease into the Zombie apocalypse?

Why? we didn't ask these Christians to go to a disease-ridden hell-hole to do whatever Christians do,.

They're medical professionals, Pat. They were over there treating the victims of a pandemic of a contangen with no known cure. You should be able to see how that benefits us all. They're also is a coming doctor shortage in the US, and it would be nice if we could keep Dr Bently around.

^ oh OK, I was picking up on the usual hatred of Christian missionaries that JUBbers usually complain about.

I wish them well.

Until then...

I'm not sure why anyone assumed they were being transported back by a commercial plane x_X. The article that I linked to clearly states that they are being flown in through other means. Also, as mentioned, they were exposed to Ebola while in Liberia, not here in Atlanta. They are being brought here to Atlanta because Emory University is one of the four locations in the country with units designed to allow doctors to treat the patients while also having a low chance of spreading the disease to others. The first patient arrived earlier today.

I find it amazing that nobody has mentioned how the 2 Americans caught Ebola. They were working for "Christian" missionary groups whose main goal it is to spread their anti-gay bulls**t (a.k.a. "provide assistance in the name of Jesus Christ"). These groups help people in need, but the primary reason why they go to help, is to evangelize and convert people in places like Africa to their reactionary, homophobic brand of "Christianity" (I use these words in quotes because Christ would probably reject most of what these groups believe, esp. when it comes to being tolerant of gays & non-Christians).

The doctor, Kent Brantly who got infected with Ebola was working for "Samaritan's Purse," a Christian missionary group. Do you know who the founder & leader of Samaritan's Purse is?? Franklin Graham...........he is very loud in the anti-gay movement, he pushed for banning gay marriage in North Carolina & he is one of the big reasons why laws criminalizing homosexuality in African countries (like Uganda) have passed recently.

If you are gay & living in Africa, God help you. Because His followers there will surely not.

What possible relevance does this have?

^And we're sure they're homophobes how?

I think the information is relevant. Thanks for posting it!

Yup. I first wondered why on earth Benvolio and Fox News would be supportive about bringing Ebola to the U.S, instead of blaming this on Obama.

Then when you see that this is about 2 conservative Christian missionaries working for Franklin Graham (a Republican donor too, btw), it all made sense.

I am so utterly confused. Is anyone else Twilight Zoning?

I'm still trying to figure that out myself. Nobody is "bringing Ebola to the US". Haven't we covered that already?

The questions is, how do two people's bodily waste get disposed in a safe manner? They have to ease their nature, and who gets to dispose of it?

How will they incinerate all the the other body fluids?

Hospitals that deal with highly dangerous diseases have incinerators for all possible contaminated material. Many of them use additional oxygen to enhance combustion (with enough oxygen, anything will burn).
