Many guys do call stop-and-go masturbation edging, and for them it is, and serves them well. My perspective is that edging is some other man controlling my cock, continually bringing me close to climax, but never quite getting there (I have to help by letting him know I'm getting "close"). In my understanding, "edging" is much similar to a dry orgasm : you feel the rhythmic pulsations of your dick in your palm and see the swellings of your glance succeeding at the same pace, while feeling the internal contractions of urethra.
