Edmonton Pride parade held hostage

I would note that this year in Toronto, the anger over the mass murder spree that went largely ignored and mishandled by the police would make it pretty difficult to welcome officers in uniform.

I'm getting a kick out of the language used here. "Held hostage" :rotflmao: "Terrorists." :rotflmao:

Who exactly said all? And I absolutely loathe when any discussion gets bogged down with the lazy, "some not all" rhetoric. I would be in chains if the response to abolition was "Well not ALL white people own slaves" instead of "Let's free these motherfuckers." As far as calling them terrorists, that's absolutely silly. And who's being held hostage? Whatever you've had to drink, pause and have a glass or two of water.

They said all by not allowing the parade to continue unless cops and military were excluded.

Blocking them is a statement itself, not saying they are all the same. I agree with them. Police force needs to get their shit together.

“ Free speech! But not when I disagree with it.”

Yes they are saying that all police and military are bad and THEY won't allow them to march in someone else's parade. Same as hating all black people because a black person mugged you and protesting a MLK parade.

Here is Canada's pride in a Uganda shirt

This is just giving the conservatives more ammunition that they allow immigration and then the immigrants use Canada's laws against them.

it's LGBT fringe terrorists blocking a peaceful pride rally.

Its happening. Why the gay pride parade then? I think you should go hijack a Caribbean festival and demand more gay representation. Lets see how that goes over.

On many occasions I find you a reactionary agent provocateur, but here you do have a very strong point.

The protesters were fighting against the wrong enemy.

Why a Caribbean festival? Why not Russian? *leans in*

Why a Russian one? Why not Carribean?

The point remains that the protesters were protesting against pro-gay police officers while there are many much more homophobic communities. Like muslim communities. So maybe, as a compromise, we can start with an Arab festival, but Russian and Jamaican deserve the same treatment.

What a dramatic correleation that doesn’t make sense. Who said the protestors hated Police? Protesting them doesn’t = hate.

Seems to me that Fred Phelps and Co. had better sense than this. Definitely better manners.

BLM wants to stop police and military presence in Gay Pride and also demand more representation om these pride committees. I dont understand the correlation. How about more gay blacks become cops then, not ruin every elses festivities. LGBT+ people prepare all year to celebrate their sexuality, something many gays have fought a lifetime for, only to have it all ruined by a very small group who dislike law and order. Sad.

They should have been arrested they were not protesting they were blocking the parade route. If they want to protest do their things on the side of the parade. What they are doing is holding the parade hostage. Childish bullies using liberals laws to get their way to harass others.

Yikes.

You must be fun at parties.

Self loathing? :rotflmao: You got the entirely wrong bitch, I'm proud of being black and ten x proud of my sexuality, I've never been closeted and the ONLY reason I don't attend Pride is because I don't like being groped and seeing people have sex in public in broad daylight.

I'm in a unique position because my black hetero culture turns a shoulder to me cuz I'm gay and gay culture turns a shoulder to me because I'm black. Unless you walk down the street draped in a rainbow flag you can function in society without being discriminated against and as a white man you damn sure can't relate to the fear and disdain for police. You're raised to see them as friends, guardians, to people who look like me they're bullies and executioners. And we aren't even going to talk about the military [that is a part of what they're protesting, no? if not ignore the next line] because they have just as seedy a history with black Americans as the police do.

There's nothing wrong with me, the problem is you choose not to view the world through any lense but your own, though to your credit there have been moments where your comments on race issues have made it clear that, to some extent, you do get it. You're just callin it way wrong on this one.

Pro-white gay, not pro-gay. Pro-gay includes black and latino and i promise you, in case you hadn't already heard, police have a strenuous relationship with brown people. Of course you would feel safe with police presense, they aren't using your people for target practice, or planting toy guns on white people, or trumping up charges, or killing your 5 year olds during raids, or shooting 13 year old white boys for playing with toy guns, or beating you senseless, or planting drugs on you et cetera.

The protesters are making an entirely fair point: too many police have constantly mistreated minorities.

It's something that deserves a little noisy attention.

I'm not in favor of prohibiting police from Pride, though. Rather, I'm in favor of Pride committees explicitly addressing the problem with the police.

The police aren't going away and they can't be wished away, either. However, I think it's possible police can be talked with. I would rather see them pulled into friendly reason than pushed away as outsiders. I think this is a better path to fixing the problem than blunt prohibitions. Maybe someday we'll see gay cops marching in Pride with pro-Black signs that mean something?

I heart you, you "get it."

This is one of the stupider things that has been written about these protests. What minority communities are looking for....just like the homos were when these parades were first started as a protest and not just a party for closeted bisexuals and good time gays...is equal treatment by law enforcement. Check your smug white privilege maybe for once.

This. It's one thing to be disinterested in our issues, but to write them off, or worse, obfuscate the message and demonize the protesters [nothing new, in her day Rosa Parks wasn't a hero she was a thug and was arrested, MLK was called a terrorist just as beachdude has called these people terrorists] is egregious and about as racist as you can get just shy of slapping a black man with a banana and calling him an ape
