Edmonton Pride parade held hostage

Did the mass murder spree involve the LGBTQ community?

Yes. We've had a thread on the murderer.

For several years, the Toronto lgbtq community tried to get the police to take the disappearance of a number of men seriously. The police botched it with indifference and inaction and by the time the killer, Bruce McArthur was caught, eight men were dead.

http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/toron...ller-bruce-mcarthur-property-search-1.4651731

So this year might not be their finest hour marching in uniform in the Toronto parade.

Who created this thread and chose its title?

Since when have facts been the basis for Fab's attacks? His history proves he is as much a liar as an agitator. They dovetail well together.

He creates his opposition, creates their political views, imputes their actions, and lambastes the straw men he creates. It's a closed loop.

Those many of us who have put him on ignore are not needed to foster his life cycle. He is a wholly self-contained organism.

It would seem gays would welcome any overtures from the police instead of working hard to ensure they were made to feel unwelcome.

If Stonewall were the big pivot, surely an era in which law enforcement identified WITH the gay population would be one of the goals.

The protest and exclusion were as wrong headed an approach to healing society as could be. And that is the problem with the misguided activist who choose this path: they deepen division in a self-righteousness that does little to improve anything. All it does is vent anger, and much of the anger a product of indoctrination. It's not that the rest of society doesn't see the ills, or even the rest of gay society, but letting it be the only thing you see is little more than zealotry.

One arm reaches across the divide, and the other hurls a stone.

Gay people do not need to become guerilla fighters. It's self-defeating.

Ahhh, I was waiting for my daily dose of "How black people should protest injustice" by Joe McWhiteguy :rotflmao:

The many of you who have me on ignore can't keep my name out your mouths, clearly I left a lasting impression because you talk more about me now than you ever did pre-covering your ears and going "LA LA LA LAAAAA" at the top of your lungs like a child. Your problem with me is that I challenge the system you grew up on that rewards you just for being white. Your default position is arguing against whatever black people are saying.

Black people: Police brutality is wrong
You: Shouldn't have committed the crime

Black people: Pineapple doesn't go on pizza
You: Pineapple should be the ONLY thing on pizza

Black people: The sky is blue
You: Clearly it's green with orange polka dots.

Same with trans, your attitudes about blacks and trans were clearly formed in a time when it was ok to "Tell a nigger how you felt about em."

Not posting a link at the moment because it is a pain on mobile, but a trans woman was arrested in Philadelphia for attempting to burn a “Blue Lives Matter” flag. She has been bailed out and even though it is not against the law to burn flags she was charged with arson. Go figure.

Yay Police!

Protecting and serving a piece of clothe, good to know where minorities stand on the totem pole

white hetero men
white gays/white women
flags
animals
minorities/trans

Nuff said.

So it's ok to bypass due process for minorities? We end up dead from traffic stops, raids on the wrong house, or buying a shotgun from Walmart, two of those things aren't even a crime. Meanwhile a white boy can walk into a school and shoot the shit out of a bunch of people and he still makes it to his day in court. Not that you haven't heard any of this before, you either don't care, maybe worse maybe it actually turns you on, or at least you're in deep deep denial about the lopsided way police handle black Americans. either way it spells cognitive dissonance, intellectual dishonesty with a side of sociopathy. If police treated white people half as badly as they do blacks yall would be storming the White House.

And maybe get some Burger King on the way to jail.

*Yes I know it was a church and not a school.

So this is my hometown and I was in the parade. A few thoughts:

  • My group includes people of at least six or seven different ethnicities, trans, immigrants, old canadians, different career paths and levels
  • Not one damn one of us, of any ethnicity, supports “police brutality” against anyone. We expect police to do their jobs impartially and apply the same laws to everyone.
  • All of us went to Pride for a good time. I’d say all of us also believe that celebrating equality does something for this community and helps gay people.
  • When I looked out at the crowd, I saw 3rd gen unkranian canadians, 1st gen somali canadians, 1000th generation cree canadians, caribbean canadians, desi canadians, english canadians, french canadians, jews, muslims, christians, hippies, business owners, police officers, military members, furries, leathermen, drag queens, emo kids, a gender questioning 9-year old drag princess with a dad who has balls of steel to make way for his son to be himself, and or herself, political parties, and a partridge in a fucking pear tree.
We’re all there, all smiling, all having fun, all celebrating equality, and all literally walking the fucking talk. All going away with a very political commitment to being fair to each other as human beings. And then asshole bullies show up to literally protest us, to literally block us, to tell us what we’re doing doesn’t matter, doesn’t count, that we’re part of the problem. And they need a pine cone and no lube, and they need to go fuck themselves.

How can I be so sure of that? Because they’re just fucking wrong. They’re wrong about who we are in Pride. They’re wrong about what we believe in or the difference it makes. They’re just 100% fucking delusional if they think the police in Edmonton in 2018 are in any way similar to the police in stonewall in 1960whatever.

Officers like most of the city from all walks of life who turned out for the show, do not give one single fuck about who is gay or who is not, and all they want to do is their job.

ALSO, officers like most of the city from all walks of life who turned out for the show, do not give one single fuck about who is brown or who is black or who is white or who is cree, and all they want is to do their job.

I PROMISE you there is a racist police officer. I PROMISE you there is an anti-gay police officer. I PROMISE you there is an anti-semite and a misogynist and an islamophobe and some asshole with roid rage and none of them should be cops. But it is delusional to think that’s all of them. And it’s just never acceptable to tar them all with the same brush. Not only is it unprincipled, it’s a goddamn stupid fucking strategy to tell all the ones who show up for the parade that they’re a bunch of anti-trans, gay-bashing, racists. They are literally the people who have been showing up and making things better for us since the days when those were literally approved police tactics upholding discriminatory laws that fell 2 decades ago now. These are the brave ones, and they won. They aren’t alone in their police detachments or their military units any more. Until this, they had the upper hand, they had the high ground, they were there to solve remaining problems, and we just crippled them. We left them to stand on the bridges these assholes burned because of their stupid, short-sighted, arrogant, bullying identity politics. A bunch of ahistoric bullshit artists and babies spewing things from their fist summer of being stoned and reading about anarchy or somethtjng.

There WILL be a true Pride in Edmonton next year and it will be for ALL, and it will be a party, not some stupid asshole misguided bullying bullshit.

But it is delusional to think that’s all of them.

Translation: I don't have an argument. You know the discussion is over when people revert back to the tired, irrelevant, intellectually dishonest, dismissive "Some not all."

Next time the police murder a twelve year old playing with a toy gun YOU can be the one to call his mom and offer her the comforting words that "Not all cops are bad." And I'm sure as shit that if the police unjustly kill someone you care about, you'll maintain composure because "Hey, it's just a select minority of bad apples, so it's all good in the hood."

This thread is kind of proving the point, all this anger all this vitriol at interrupting a party, where is all this righteous indignation when police beat or choke or stomp-out or shoot a person of color? Oh, right, its non-existent. Thank you all for so perfectly illustrating exactly why these protests are needed, and will continue. History will remember that a fucking street party meant more to you than actual living, breathing, human beings and their right to freedom or even just life which is supposedly what this parade is supposed to represent. Disgusting. And unsurprising, this is two different cultures clashing here, white people grow up viewing the police as friends, protectors, notsomuch for black people who have been stomped out figuratively and literally by police since we were set lose from the plantation.

The #1 killer of black people is...black people. Where is YOUR richeous indignation? Why expect everyone else to fix YOUR commumity?

Translation: you have no argument, only the same incoherent bitterness and irrelevance as the bully blockade. You see me as a colour and not a person with a brain or compassion or a sense of justice or a political skill set.

White gay people literally know what it’s like to face actual police brutality and oppression.

Gonna repeat that for the stoners in the back row:
White gay people literally know what it’s like to face actual police brutality and oppression.
Some of us also have some theories about what has literally worked to solve a lot of that. If you come to me and say hey this problem is real, it happened to me still, you can grab hold of that pine cone for yourself if you think I don’t give a shit about that. But no, the angry amateur young communist protest movement from 19 fucking 15 isn’t going to solve anything. And I know that because I know what has worked to dissolve other kinds of injustice.

So yeah, there are two cultures at work here, one that understands how to make progress, and one that can only imagine being an oppressed marginalised outsider, and will take a pass on any opportunity to change that.

This makes no damn sense to me either. Black people are MY community, and yours. Or did you move to that compound in Idaho?

You see me as a colour and not a person with a brain or compassion or a sense of justice or a political skill set.

That's a side effect of not showing compassion or concern for justice.

White gay people literally know what it’s like to face actual police brutality and oppression.

Doesn't mean you give a fuck when it happens to brown people. It just means you're dense enough to compare a handful of isolated incidents to a long history of abuse and mistreatment. White gays don't know what it's like to be shot while purchasing a shotgun in Walmart, or while sitting in your car in a parking lot, or because you look like a suspect, you don't know what it's like to have guns or drugs planted on you by police, or to arrive at the station looking like you just fought a team of football players, I dunno where you got this nonsense that police treatment of gays and of minorities is comparable but I hope you kept your receipt.

Google maps: please instruct me how to get off Delusional Blvd

No thankyou, I've already got my copy of "How black people should/shouldn't protest" by Joe McWhiteguy.

So yeah, there are two cultures at work here, one that understands how to make progress, and one that can only imagine being an oppressed marginalised outsider, and will take a pass on any opportunity to change that.

This is ignorant and racist as fuck, this tired old "Black people just wanna be victims" is a simple way of deflecting the real and deadly problems we face and absolving yourself of the guilt of knowing that it's going on and doing fuck-all about it because you don't care because it's not happening to people who look like you. For every incident of police brutality against white gays I can name dozens against minorities. Lynch parties, failing to investigate assault and rape and murder of people of color, if you sincerely think the two plights are comparable by any reasonable measure you need to go back to 4th grade and crack open a history book.

Black people have had anti-violence groups and initiatives for as long as we've been on American soil. You're either unaware, or lying so you can continue expressing your racism.

As far as fixing it, I dunno how black people are supposed to get white cops to stop murdering them, maybe you have some ideas? The fact that you call them "Your" instead of "our" plainly shows your "us vs them NOT we" mentality. These are human beings you don't give a fuck about because they're brown, I'm a big girl you can take the kid gloves off and stop dancing around the subject.
