Edmonton Pride parade held hostage

Since you seem to know me so well, I assume that with "your people" you mean Belgians of Lebanese grandparents living in Morocco with a half-Turkish, half-Persian spouse?

I mean people who don't understand the strained relationship brown people have with police in the Americas.

Just to be clear, could you please give your definition of brown people? It has varied from post to post and we just need some clarification. Thx.

Just a reminder, if it weren't for riots [which this wasn't even a riot, just a protest] we'd still be working ten-twelve hours day six days a week.

I don’t understand the questioning of speaking for the group has to do with anything.

I was curious to know if the QTIBPOC shares fabulouslyghetto’s call for an escalation toward violence as a means to prevent the police from participating in pride, assuming peaceful protest does not bring about the desired result.

I am for the police taking part in Pride, but I do get [the protesters'] point.

Yes, I am sitting on the fence in this matter, too.

Don't get me wrong. I am not on the fence. I think there is a better way to deal with this, I just see their point.

I advise you to share your ideas cuz when peaceful protest doesn't work the next step is civil disobedience and then outright rioting. We're only gonna take so much more.

At this point you're doing this on purpose, I did not CALL for an escalation towards violence I simply stated it as an inevitability. Please, for the umpteenth time, stop obfuscating my posts purposely, you're a mod and I expect better from you.

Maybe I missed something but what human rights do white people have that black people don't?

:rotflmao: The right to a trial by jury for one, can't go to trial if you're, ya know, dead. Also, since you asked, the right to sell weed. The US govt just spent four decades locking up young black men for selling weed-- destroying their lives and futures in the process and now decided "Nevermind, it's legal now, and we're gonna get rich off of it." There's way more but I'm going to let you deny this bit first.

Earlier this year, the Edmonton Festival Pride Society denied permission for the United Conservative Party to participate in the 2018 pride parade. The UCP is the Official Opposition.

One aspect of the denial of the UCP’s request to participate was that individual members were not prevented from attending the festival and participating; however, there could be no sanctioned participation of the group as an entity.

I am wondering if the same decision process that has now excluded police participation in future pride parades allows individual police officers to attend and participate. After all, I assume some members of the police are also members of the LGBTQ2S+ community.

According to the link in the opening post, QTIBPOC has a “media liaison.” Does anyone know if they have a website? I have been unable to discover much information about the group, what it stands for, how many members it has, or who are its leaders.

So, perhaps they're being allowed to participate in a lesser way, as second-class citizens, or token police representatives, in a symbolic gesture. How poignant. It's like stained glass windows, painted over.

Are you just gonna gloss over your wild misinterpretation of my post like it didn't happen? Anybody with eyeballs can see I wasn't calling for shit. Have I in ten years ever advocated violence? :?

My post was based on reasonable assumption. I suggest you be more careful about the things you write. Maybe take steps to deescalate the rhetoric and stop fomenting fear with all this talk of rioting. Try to stay closer to the topic.

As I understand it, the police had already agreed to dispense with uniforms, firearms, and official vehicles. I'm not sure if they sponsored a float in the parade. I was most curious to know if individuals who are police officers are specifically disinvited going forward.

No it wasn't reasonable which is why you avoided like the plague me asking if I've ever advocated violence on JUB. My comment was OBVIOUSLY based on historical trends and mistreatment towards minorities that go way back before the US was even founded. Treat people like shit long enough and they will riot. That's been the way since we started walking upright.

Per the topic: I do not wish violence on anybody but as someone who paid attention in history class, as I said people are only going to take so much abuse, which is why this protest happened in the first place and, once again, our protest draws more anger than the abuse we're protesting which is absolutely disgusting albeit unsurprising. As I said before which has gone unaddressed, never in history have whites en masse supported any black protest of any kind no matter how peaceful.

Why do you keep bringing up the US?
This is a thread about Canada and what happened in a place where we usually keep a bit more perspective.

FWIW~ Your statement below looks a lot like a threat.

Protecting and serving a piece of clothe, good to know where minorities stand on the totem pole

white hetero men
white gays/white women
flags
animals
minorities/trans

The figures on a totem pole are arranged from top to bottom, but the sequence of the figures is not an indication of their importance. The concept of “low man on the totem pole” is not an expression of Northwest Coast culture as position on the pole is not an indication of rank.

Indians 101: The Totem Pole

The lowest figure on a totem pole is generally the most respected.

Of course when you chop it up and take it out of context. ..| And though Canada is a separate nation it's still part of the Americas, no? And apparently they share America's strained relationship between police and brown people or else what were they protesting?
