I can stop sweating now.
I've just spoken to my pal. He was ever so understanding about it.
He told me to stop worrying, accidents happen and that he won't lose any sleep over it.
When I offered to pay for it he said "Don't be so silly - we can glue it back together and put it back on the windowsill where it has always been".
Phew! I'm going to sit down now with a glass of lager and a Marlboro Red.
What a day!
Thanks for all the support guys. And Blueboy, I know exactly what you mean about your blood going cold - mine froze for a while I can tell you!

Alan,
Assuming that you are the absolute gentleman in person that you have always appeared to be on this forum - I would suggest that you just tell him (apologetically) what happened.
If it were me, I would offer to make restitution for the value of the piece - and if your friend (of 25 years standing) is as much a gentleman as yourself, I imagine he would decline the offer.
If not...well maybe he isn't as much of a gentleman as you are yourself? (But I would take that chance).

He'll never trust you again.![]()
EEEK! He's brought me another ornament to sell!![]()
^Thanks for the cuddles!
EEEK! He's brought me another ornament to sell!![]()
(This one isn't as fragile or as expensive though - thankfully!)
Clearly he trusts you, and no harm has been done to your friendship.![]()
Or... He hates those ornaments![]()

So how did the other ornament fare?
