Eid Mubarak =

Eid ul-Fitr (Arabic: عيد الفطر ‘Īdu l-Fiṭr‎), often abbreviated to Eid, is a three-day Muslim holiday that marks the end of Ramadan, the Islamic holy month of fasting (sawm). Eid is an Arabic word meaning "festivity", while Fiṭr means "conclusion of the fast"; and so the holiday celebrates the conclusion of the thirty days of dawn-to-sunset fasting during the entire month of Ramadan. The first day of Eid, therefore, falls on the first day of the month Shawwal.

LOL wrong holiday.

Eid Mubarak!

Best thing about Muslim holiday is that they know it is a MUST to celebrate with good food!
When I was teaching in the Arabic program here, one of my colleagues would always invite his students and colleagues to his house for Iftar one night during Ramadan, and he NEVER half-assed it, even when the program grew to the point where he had almost a hundred students. His wife did a lot of the cooking, and in later years he started having the event catered by local restaurants run by friends of his. Nobody ever left his house with an empty stomach, and many people left with plates of leftovers. Our local NPR station actually did a story on this event one year.

Would it be correct to say there is no specific event that Eid Mubarak commemorates but it just means sort of like "Woo-Hoo Ramadan is over! Let's Party!" ?

eid is today? I thought it was on friday... the muslims were doing something on friday. I couldn't get a taxi for like an hour.

happy eid anyway :)

I've heard weaving ketupat bundles takes nimble fingers. I've never eaten one. Would you mind putting one in the mail with suitable accompaniments so I can enjoy from afar?
