Electric Cars Forbidden In Canada

If everybody becomes energy independent it would be the end of the world as they want it to be.

So, no matter what happens in the future, we're fucked until we find ourselves living in caves again and discovering fire.

"And for what it's worth, Libertarianism is an extremely valid and progressive social philosophy. There's no need to put "Libertarians" in quotes. Do you similarly try to marginalize the Green Party? There are far more Libertarians in office than Greenies."
Ha, ha ha! Is it true you still have to live in your Mother's basement to get membership in the "Libertarian" party? It's not a philosophy, its just white boys, who think they are special, whining about the same rules everyone else seems to be able to cope with. For example car safety rules and health care- when you suggest that they are the first steps to facism you just come across as light-weight drama queens.

No, when the Libertarians cast electoral votes for Drew Carey for President they come off like drama queens.

I never took issue with vehicle safety rules in any way. When I was a kid, we had a 1963 Corvair, replete with wood grain contact paper on the dash.

When I hear people preach the importance of adopting government-run health care, they strike me as elite power-mongers who would much rather dictate the lives of strangers than see the people educated to make their own decisions.

That is a very interesting take on health care- here in Australia these policies have tended to have very strong grass-root support! But then we do have an electorate that is much more ingauged in politics. Generally the people strongly against health care systems here are the very wealthy.

BTW. It's nice to see a Libertarian with a sense of humour!;)

True about putting solar panels on roofs, the problem is it is extremely expensive.

I know the government does subsidize some of the cost, and energy companies will actually give you money, if they have to use some of the energy from your solar panels. You have to plug the energy into the grid. It also cuts your energy bill in half, or more than a half.

A retired couple who are regular clients looked at solar shingles. They found that, after government and power-company incentives, the solar roof would actually cost slightly less than a regular roof.
The real expense came from the power-grid hook-up: an extra $8000! The calculations showed that with their square footage and exposure angle, to get back that cost in savings and power sold would be on the order of twenty years, so they went with "insulated" asphalt shingles.
What's sad is that since they made the decision, the cost to hook to the grid has dropped by nearly 40%, because enough people were going solar to drop the equipment and installation prices.

As with everything, though, the price would drop drastically with more people buying it. They even make solar shingles now. Virtually every home in North America could be self-sufficient

The government could never allow that. They rely on their control of energy and the taxes derived from that control to have power over us. If everybody becomes energy independent it would be the end of the world as they want it to be.

The sale of power to homes would hardly matter. And not many factories, certainly hardly any office buildings, have sufficient roof area to supply even a modest fraction of their power needs.

The government does allow it, and also subsidizes it. The white house used to have solar panels, but when Reagan came in, he got them taken out. I guess they represented too much change.

More ignorance....

Most libertarians are such because of principles. The Libertarian Party in the USA has as its motto "The Party of Principles", because that's what it centers on, and because no other party has any.
The basic principle is "You own yourself"; corollaries are non-initiation of force, suspicion of government, personal responsibility, etc.
As good number of libertarians have no problem with car safety rules; they just don't think that should be a province of government. If the roads were all run by transportation companies, they would have every right to require conformity with auto safety requirements as part of the contract; since the government at the moment is the "corporation" which owns the roads, there's no problem with them making rules; the only problem is that the government should not be running such a thing.
As for health care, spending tax money on such is a violation of free speech, because it requires people who don't approve of such nanny-state intervention to pay for it (though there are remedies for that issue).

Screw electric cars. Anyone who buys an electric car might as well just chop off his nuts.

Huh?
Are you up to date on electric cars? ABC a few weeks ago had a piece on one that can keep up on the freeway with just about anything out there.
I was impressed in a way that would suggest that it's the guy with the electric car that really "has a pair": zero to sixty in eight seconds... silently. That much power, in silence, is both tight and tough! ..|

Haha... Yes.

Well, actually, if you want to get really picky, they marginalize themselves. I help, though, in my own little way.

Hmmm, what was it I said about Libertarians, senses of humour, and Living With Mom!
