Hasselbeck has long been known for her staunch conservative support as well as her often bizarre arguments for them. In arguing against gay marriage in the ninth season of the View, she likened a same sex union to marrying a toaster.

Barack Obama lied his ass off, too by stating he was for gay marriage and legalization or marijuana/the end of the War On Drugs. It helped to get him elected into office, and then he magically changed his opinion and avoided discussing those issues anymore.

Well, the last time Obama spoke favorably of gay marriage was well before his national aspirations took off when he was a state senator in IL. I think that he's lying NOW about his lack of support for gay marriage rather than him lying then.

Not that that's a position worth having. He made a political calculation somewhere along the line that civil unions were the acceptable middle ground to coalesce around and he was wrong about what would happen in the courts and in state legislatures, and now he's stuck in a weird and contradictory position (see his administration's response to the Prop 8 ruling "he didn't support Prop 8 but nor does he support gay marriage)

You also could have asked why instead of jumping to conclusions. No, that is not why. But I will say my vote will go elsewhere next time. And as an American that is my choice. If I read this correctly, you are implying that Obama has done nothing for gay people and has just paid them lip service, so you see no difference other than McCain's honestly and Obama's deception. And nothing could be further from the truth.

Since Obama's election:


-federal hate crimes law enacted (first national gay rights law of any kind)

-gay partners of federal workers get health insurance

-FHA home loans can no longer consider the sexual orientation of applicants

-The Census Bureau plans to report the number of people who report being in a same-sex relationship, which could lead to increased recognition and awareness.

-Hospitals must now allow gay people to visit their ill partners.

-Federal child-care subsidies can be used by the children of same-sex domestic partners.

-DADT repeal pending (likely final later this year)

It's likely that NONE of that would have happened with McCain. He has opposed every single effect to treat gay people equally on anything in the past 2 years. Obama made a political calculation on gay marriage, but he has been a national advocate for the advancement of gay rights nonetheless. McCain would have been an obstructor like Bush and would have stopped any and all progress.
