Re: Thank you Ellen for brining this visibility!

I love Ellen. I knew my mom would be ok with me being gay because she loved ellen so much as well. My grandma on the other hand..... (Not out to her, she'd freak!)

Re: Thank you Ellen for brining this visibility!

I was thrilled when I saw that. If there's anybody that can make 'middle America' aware of anything, it's Ellen. I love her. :)

Re: Thank you Ellen for brining this visibility!

This is a positive thread, and I am pleased to give my unqualified support, and I work hard in this area of community concern already. And the agencies and people cited are helpers.

I am old, so we the old and young stand together. Hip, hip, hurray!

Re: Thank you Ellen for brining this visibility!

I love Ellen she's such a fun person it's nice to see her so serious every once in a while. That was a totally screwed up story. Killed for asking someone to be your Valentine? That is just....ugh, it's disgusting.

](*,):grrr:Gay teenager killed by classmate in US

Police investigating the murder of a 15-year-old boy by his teenage classmate are treating the shooting as a hate crime.
[removed]Lawrence has been bullied for wearing make-upLawrence King had been harassed by a group of boys at his Florida school, including the 14-year-old charged with his murder, since he told friends he was gay.

His fellow pupils at E.O. Green Junior High in Oxnard said the bullying started after Lawrence wore mascara, lipstick and jewellery to school.

“They teased him because he was different,” said Marissa Moreno, 13.

“But he wasn’t afraid to show himself.”
On Feb 12 Lawrence was in the school's computer lab when his alleged attacker, Brandon McInerney, walked into the room and shot him in the head. He was caught by police a few blocks away.
Lawrence was declared brain dead the following day and taken off life support on Feb 14.
The shooting has stunned residents of Oxnard, a relaxed middle-class beach community just north of Malibu.

“We’ve never had school violence like this here before, never had a school shooting,” said David Keith, a spokesman for the Oxnard Police Department.
One parent with a daughter at the school called the crime “absolutely unbelievable.”
McInerney has been charged as an adult with murder as a premeditated hate crime and gun possession. If convicted, he faces a sentence of 52 years to life in prison.
Speaking at a memorial service for Lawrence, the Rev. Dan Birchfield of Westminster Presbyterian Church said: “God knit Larry together and made him wonderfully complex. Larry was a masterpiece.”

Re: Thank you Ellen for brining this visibility!

GLBT community needs more people like Ellen!

Re: Ellen Degeneres takes a stand for gays

I want to comment on that clip but I am speechless.
God bless you Ellen.

Re: Ellen Degeneres takes a stand for gays

Wow.

I understand gay personalities like Ellen just want to live their lives in peace and dont want to have to be "our" spokespeople - the same thing we ask for. But holey hell if people dont stop and listen when she speaks. That 2 minutes of talk should open a debate thats long over due.

Its time we stopped paying lip service to "acceptance" and that the people who can do draw attention to the issue.

How many more of these sort of attacks have "kids" got to endure??? It wasnt that long ago that the Mathew Shepard murder caused outrage... where has the goodwill and good intentions gone???

To borrow a Croynan icon...](*,)](*,)](*,)

Re: Ellen Degeneres takes a stand for gays

Ellen is in a unique position. She's risen to such a high celebrity status and yet she's openly and unapoligetically gay. She has the power to influence a lot of people on this issue. Think of how many people's minds she has changed since coming out and becoming so popular. There are millions of white bread middle-Americans who see Ellen every day and see her as a normal human being. All of those people whose minds have been changed now see her speaking out on these issues and that is how things will begin to change in our country. We need the visibility and not through the stereotypical funny gay characters on TV or in movies. We need more normal, everyday people like Ellen to take visibil roles in society to show people that we're not freaks.

Re: Ellen Degeneres takes a stand for gays

As another poster said, God Bless you Ellen, for taking a stand on this issue. If only more people were as brave as you
