British Soap Emmerdale Aaron Dingle Homophobia Storyline

Just letting people know the British soap Emmerdale has a new homophobia storyline taking place where the gay character Aaron Dingle is getting targeted because he is a gay man. Aaron been sentenced to jail for twelve months and he is now separated from his husband Robert Sugden. On the one hand I like the idea of the storyline because I am sure gay men do got it tough behind bars. But I wonder if the writers are stereotyping gay men? Just wondering for British viewers are those the outfits prisoners really wear in prisons? Link:

On Emmerdale bisexual character Robert Sugden is back with his ex girlfriend Rebecca White. I actually like Robert and Rebecca together they have chemistry. Do not know what the writers are going to do? But it looks like Robert got Rebecca pregnant and she will have his baby. But will Aaron accept his husband got a woman pregnant?? Link:

I know they try and show that Robert is just an ass and his sexuality has nothing to do with his personality but I have to say really Emmerdale! Seriously yes Aaron makes him a better man and without him Robert loses his way but Bisexuals always seem to be made cheats on TV this didn't help. I would have loved Rebecca to have taken the higher ground and just been a friend but then again this doesn't create drama.
Am I the only one who cannot wait until Emma gets caught out for that horrible thing she did on poor Ashley?

When it comes to bisexual male characters on Emmerdale, I remember Gavin Ferris played by Robert Beck. He was gorgeous and I was so disappointed that he didn't find out Jason Kirk was gay when he gave him that lift out of town. To be caught by his wife to be Bernice in a gay liplock at the pub and he didn't last long on the show after that. That was quite a while ago now.

I appreciate that bisexuality and homosexuality is more accepted now. I like that Emmerdale has the occasional scene where a hunk will show his buns. I remember the original Robert showing his buns and David showing his. There is a lot to appreciate about Emmerdale.

I will throw this in, on Hollyoaks I so want to see Warren Fox hook up with a gay man on the show. He is just so darn sexy. On Coronation Street I am hoping that Todd Grimshaw and Adam Baldwin have a tryst. Two bad boys being paired that could be quite interesting.

I am glad that you posted and share my opinion. I like to read Anthony D. Langford's Gays Of Our Lives posts which you can find if you do a Google search. He mentioned in one that he thought they should pair Todd and Adam and he pointed out what you did as a reason it may happen. Well I find it intriguing and besides I wouldn't mind Billy and Sean getting back together.

I wonder when it comes to Aaron Livesy and Robert Sugden which one is the top. It could go either way but I have kind of leaned toward Aaron Livesy as being the top. Robert Sugden is a bad boy type and probably what they would call a love rat, but this betrayal of Aaron by Robert may result in some rich drama down the road and I could see the show killing of the Lady that Robert slept with after she has the child and a big custody battle storyline with her rich and powerful father and sister determined to keep the child away from Robert. I am just guessing on all this of course.

I will throw this out here as well. The guy that played Charlie Stubbs on Coronation Street and was Finn's father on Emmerdale; I hope he gets cast as a gay character in some soap like Hollyoaks. I have had a thing for him since way back when he was Footballer's Wives. I just looked him up on Google his name is Bill Ward.

It is hard for me to watch Corrie these days as it is so friggin' depressing. I really have grown to dislike Ken Barlow lecturing his family considering all the crappy affairs and stuff he has had over the years. I wouldn't mind if they really did kill his character off as he is such a misery guts. Now if they were to have Adam and Todd hook up I would be tuning in eagerly to Coronation Street.

I was not aware of this triangle. Though I suppose it is par for the course. I remember when Charity Dingle had an affair with both Chris Tate and his sister Zoe. I like the actor who played Declan and years ago he was in QAF UK. He got killed off before his character showed any nudity or did anything that was particularly erotic. When Finn had that crush on him for awhile and Charity became aware of it; I was so hoping that Declan would have a tryst with Finn. Of course that was my overactive imagination and wasn't going to happen.

Bernice has a certain ability to find bisexual men or closeted gays. I think she has had a couple guys that turned out to be bisexual or gay. Of course the poor Lady ends up brokenhearted.

A guy I liked on Emmerdale years and years ago was Biff. He got on his motorbike and has yet to return to Emmerdale. He was a rather cute guy. I remember he had a thing for a rich Lady named Tara. Tara and he had a bit of a romance. Gavin at one point had an affair on Bernice with Tara. Gavin Ferris was a love rat but a gorgeous love rat.

I find Robron Aaron and Robert feel kind of stale now. The whole baby storyline is so heteronormative. Can a gay couple on a soap NOT be stuck becoming parents. Especially Aaron and Robert they are young. I also find it dumb of the writers to not explore Robert's past. We know so little about it. The writing always revolves around Aaron acting like a victim crying and being miserable. Yet Aaron has NEVER been the one supporting Robert. Why can't the Emmerdale writers make a big storyline specifically about Robert past and Aaron being his rock supporting him? The couple just does not come across as romantic to be or passionate. I know UK people will say there is the watershed. But heterosexual couple get love scenes in a bed. And Aaron and Robert have never kissed in a bed passionately. It could be due to Danny Miller the guy who plays Aaron has made homophobic comments in the press in the past. Ryan Hawley the guy who plays Robert is also heterosexual in real life. It just shows in their acting both these straight actors just quickly peck and get it over with. The passion is just not there compared to other British soaps with gay male characters.

Robert is BISEXUAL though, I think it is unrealistic of Aaron to expect Robert to NEVER EVER have sex with a woman again. It makes no sense. I don't like this whole big cheating thing it sounds too heteronormative to me. Not saying gay couples do not deal with cheating. But I hate that the show has to involve a WOMAN in a gay male storyline absolutely HATE IT! But I have to understand we are not the main market for these gay male characters on soaps straight women are. I just find this new storyline of Robron too heteronormative and it is just frustrating. I question, whether or not gay men are on the writing staff. I heard the executive producer Iain McLeod is gay in real life? Can anyone from the UK confirm is Iain McLeod a homosexual or not?

Hetronormative give your heads a shake, right Robert is in a relationship with someone screw their gender at this point, it isn't open and therefore if he has sex with a woman he is cheating if it was another man cheating simple. As for kids etc. guess what a lot of gay ppl are just living quite lives with kids etc doesn't make them straight it shows they diversity of the human race we know many hetro characters without kids or who never settle down or don't want kids so why do we always have to show the promiscuous gays all the time? RTD has a lot to answer for sometimes but yes I agree chemistry between the characters is poor also I never hear of Danny Miller making homophobic remarks, if he was like this he certainly wouldn't be play a gay character.

I do enjoy Aaron and Robert. Soaps are about drama and people are very rarely happy for long. Perhaps in the long run the couple will come out the other side of these twists and turns stronger.

I love Emmerdale always have since i was a kid it was Emmerdale farm then. Must admit im kinda fed up with the constant misery and toxic relationship that robron have become. Personally i prefer Ross hes gorgeous has great screen presence . Mike Parr plays the role to perfection.

I gave up on Coronation Street because it has so much misery that I thought they should rename is Misery Street. You should probably stick with Emmerdale since you have watched it for so long. Maybe Aaron and Robert will have some happy times yet.
