Ok so this is a problem I've been having for about a month or two now. Lately I haven't been able to get a full erection either while masturbating or during sex, at most I can get almost hard but it's still quite flaccid. I recently started going out with this guy and I've been the bottom during our sex sessions(we're both versatile) but when he wants me to top I kinda freak out about it cos I'm not hard enough to penetrate him. At first I thought it was nerves since I really like him but now I can't even get an erection when watching porn. I thought it was ED but then I didn't believe guys my age could get it (19) and now I'm more convinced I do have it.

Any emotional issues going on? Any heavy issues weighing on your mind? Anxiety can be a boner killer. If the condition persists, don't hesitate to discuss with your doctor.

ED, can range from the psychological to the physiological, factors such as blood-pressure, smoking, drug-use can all come into play.
Though at 19, i would hazard that your problems may stem from some psychological issue.
Go see your GP, please don't feel embarrassed, Dr,s deal with this on an almost weekly basis.
Your GP can run some tests to determine if it is being caused by any underlying physical condition. If not, then there are other paths that can be followed. Wishing you well. Adam.

Sometimes the fear that builds up in someone who experienced a minor occurrence is worse than the minor occurrence! Not to make light of it something similar is guys that are Pee shy. (It happens to m now and then not sure why. I am in a theatre and during intermission I have to pee like crazy. I stand there saying what if I can and guess what I can not. See a urologist and hang in there guy.

Although am not licensed to practice medicine on JUB, when you see your doctor, ask him/her about Wellbutrin. It is used to treat depression but also to help smoking cessation. Under certain circumstances, in low doses it may be used to treat ED. If your partner is understanding and wiling to help, you may wish to consider slowing everything down until you become more confident. Above all, no need to feel embarrassed when you see your doc. You're not the Lone Ranger and I would guess that ED is more common than you think, regardless of age. ..|

On the other side of the fence, I told my urologist that I wake up the middle of the night with a full erection. I told him that at 3 a.m., I just want to roll over and go back to sleep. He said, "count your blessings." Go figure. Anyway, hope everything works out for you.

Also, see post #4.

Do you watch a lot of porn?

I had this problem and porn was the cause.

Excessive porn use fucks up your brain and kills your boner. You can google it.

Before I consulted the DSM for some arcane psych vector, I'd look for a medical cause. First ask about trauma. Questions like "do you ride a bicycle long distances?" etc.

Weight is a big issue: obese men have lots of "peripheral estrogens" (female sex hormones): fat cells turn testosterone and other male sex hormones (androgens) into estrogens. Those will kill an erection (they'll also give you man-boobs!) In addition obese people have vascular issues, and possible underlying diabetes.

The test that we usually rely upon is whether your erections at night/in the morning are normal. If they are, then the issue is unlikely to be physical.

On the other hand, if you are having issues getting hard and staying hard even during the night, then you should see your doctor for a physical to rule out a physical cause. Generally, unless there is trauma or some other event, most physical issues with erections develop over a long period of time- usually years.

It is possible that you are deep in denial and are a closet heterosexual. You might want to try women. ;)

Seriously, Kara's suggestion that you see a doctor about this if you do wake up with morning wood is correct.

A traditional way to determine if you are getting hard at night without knowing it is to stick a string of postage stamps around it at night, being sure the perforations holding the stamps together are intact. If you get hard, it will break some if the perforations, and you will know that there is not a physical cause of the problem.
