This will be a little lengthy, but I hope it won't put people off reading it!

As for information, I'm a 20 year old gay guy, healthy life style, dont drink very often ( once twice a month? ) don't smoke, ice skater and cyclist with a decent diet.

Ok, the general jist of this is I think I might have ED but am not 100% sure so I will list why I think I have and if it's not then maybe it's possible to suggest if something else could be wrong! :)

Firstly, I can get erections on my own, but I always have to help with a hand I rarely just get erections from just looking at porn or thinking about sex per say, however they are not normally 'hard' they are sort of lazy, occasionally I can get one that finally stands 'up' properly...But it's pretty rare, along side that I lose that hardness very quickly even while getting stimulated via masturbation.

Now, the real issue is, with my partner ( Or anyone in the last 2 years ) has been awkward. My partners or anyone else can easily get and maintain a very firm erection and keep it throughout sexual activity. Me on the other hand will struggle to get hard enough for penetration and if I do get hard enough there is only a small space of time to actually 'stick it in' if you will, otherwise that hardness will be lost very quickly making it impossible for penetrative sex...

This has led me to be very paranoid about sex and I get very worried and upset when I think about it, getting a full erection and keeping it for any real length of time is nearly impossible and I am only 20 years old...It's been distressing and harrowing putting me off sexual activity.

Is this a form of ED? If it is what possible cures are there is there a way to get back a natural erection without having to take a pill every time? I've heard of something Kegle exercises which are supposed to help but I am still very worried!

Thank you for taking the time to read this, I look forward to any response you are able to give!

Regards,

Daniel

It is ED. You should make an appointment with a urologist.

The curious thing is that your erectile issues are omnipresent- when you masturbate and when you are with another person which is unusual. Unless you have firm and long-standing erections during sleep or in the morning, your problem will probably have a physiological origin.

The urologist will probably do evaluations that check both the possible anatomical and hormonal causes.

Ahh well that's a quick answer :S Can I do that through my GP? Or is it something I have to look up?

I must admit I haven't been checking if I am waking up with hardons...I will check over the next 2/3 days while I am at home.

It's like I said just lack of firmness and longevity of the firmness, it dissipates very quickly...just don't want it to be serious...:((

You ought to see an urologist as was advised. The worry part isn't helping either, because, in a sense, you doing biofeedback with negative results. This is either a mental or physical condition. See the urologist for possible physical reasons.

Does that cost money or can I get it through my GP? I really don't have alot of money and can't afford any private sort of treatment :(

This will be a little lengthy,

Since when is being long an erectile problem? Unless maybe there's too much weight in the head...

but I hope it won't put people off!

And you should never be concerned about others being jealous of what you have.

OK, now on to the real issue. I would also agree that you should see a urologist. But in the meantime, stop obsessing about things. You seem to be stressing yourself out, and I wonder if this is not a significant factor in your issue if not the direct cause. To borrow from the '80s: You take the good, you take the bad. You take it all and there you have: The facts of life.

You may also want to have your blood pressure checked, and your blood sugars. Is there a history of diabetes in your family?

I hope that's a joke and my humor is failing me! :P

Ok, but I still don't know how to find such a person...I can't find much about it other then what they do and locations...I just don't want to have to pay oodles of money for it...:(

I can't say there is a history with the family for anything other then a heart condition that hits me about 50! Tho I will probably ask for the rest as well...

Looks like you're in the UK where this would be covered under your NHS benefits. You may need to talk with your GP and get a referral to a urologist (which is a doctor who specializes in disorders of the genitals and urinary system).

Be sure to mention that you are a cyclist when you have your appointment.

Don't delay with this- money should not be a concern. Some causes of ED may not be reversible if you delay seeking treatment.

I will make an appointment asap and get them to see what could be wrong!

Thank you for the swift responses!

If you are in the UK there is no problem regarding charges, you are fully covered by our NHS. You must go to your registered GP and he will carry out all the initial tests that he thinks necessary. If he finds something that requires an expert opinion he will refer you to a consultant at your local hospital.
Dont keep worrying about it go to your GP, since you have a problem getting a hard you will not embarrass yourself :-) It could be an under lining medical problem. Best of luck and let us know how it goes.

My main worry is having to use the 'the pill' permanently which would be very depressing considering my age :(

Oh well Doctors tomorrow!

At your age I do not think any Dr would prescribe Viagra for you on a permanent basis! For one think it is too expensive! Best of luck tomorrow, hope he is able to put your fears to rest.

Well hopefully my GP can refer me to who I need to see! Thus making it free of charge which is always lovely...

Tho this whole thing has been making me feel a tad more isolated in the world then I already am...:( I seem to get all these sorts of problems!

I know it's difficult not to worry but try not to. That only makes this issue much worse. The more you obsess and think about it, the more likely you are to have trouble.

As others have mentioned a very likely cause could by the cycling. The pressure from the seat can damage the nerves and blood vessels leading to your penis. You would by far not be the first guy to have the issue. From what I've read the problem will usually resolve after you stop cycling or get a better seat. Also make sure there is plenty of padding in that area.

Don't be afraid or embarrassed to tell the Dr. EVERYTHING that is going on. They can't help you if they don't know whats happening.

Good luck.

How often do you cycle, that can cause problems. See a doctor, its probably correctable at your age.

See I haven't cycled much over winter, I tend to just do it alot in summer...But I haven't cycled for long a couple of years? And it's only a 'get fit' 15-30 miles when I do it about 3/4 times a week!

My appointment was placed on the wrong Wednesday it's this coming one :((

I've had a whole week to think about how embarrassing it will be!

Don't be embarrassed - this is probably far more common than you might think .. and you definitely won't be the first patient for your doctor with this.

Dude. Don't be embarrassed. thats what the dr. went to 14 years of college for right? They are there to help you. It's a medical condition. No different than if you had a bad back or knee troubles. They are there to help you. Your by far not the first guy to have this trouble. Nor will you be the last. They're usually so busy that by the time you've walked to your car they've forgotten all about you. I don't mean that badly. I just mean that they see a lot of patients and have a lot going on. I guarantee they aren't going to be goofing on you after you leave. Be open and honest. Let them help you fix this and move on with your life.
