Why do members here express alarm and concern when a moderator engages in an argument/thread of questionable taste with another member. It is a behaviour that appears to be on the increase.

It is laughable to see posts along the lines of "Well I would have expected better from a moderator" or "I'm surprised a moderator would write that" etc.

The last time that I checked, forum moderators were not infallible deities - they volunteer to keep the forums ticking over, surely they are allowed to express an opinion, or join in the occasional flame war...the way some members hold them in such high regard is incredible. It must become very boring being a moderator.

moderators are not infallible deities... they are in fact automatons!

behold... the modbot 3000!

cold, calculating and devastatingly efficient! ;)

I would also like to point out that moderators are not "responsible" for ALL forums.

While each is assigned a forum as their "home turf," that does not preclude them from engaging in debates in that, or any other forum.

Having said that, it is hoped that the mods conduct themselves in a way they would like to see members behave; we call this modeling.

However, sometimes a mod posts something "un-mod like." Don't worry about it too often. I'm sure all that happened was they posted "Hey! You are an idiot" before another member did.

If your best defense is "Well I would have expected better from a moderator" you pretty much just publicly admitted defeat.

Leadership carries with it more responsibilities, and therefore
has fewer freedoms, and I am certain every Moderator has been so instructed.

This is true of all forms of leadership, and it is not to be confused with differrent ethics for different people.

Shep+

I will say that JUB, for me, became less entertaining and more taxing once I walked behind the curtain.

Every now and then I come across certain threads and certain members which remind me why I come here.

To quote Shylock in the merchant of Venice.....

"If you prick us, do we not bleed? if you tickle us, do we not laugh? if you poison us, do we not die? and if you wrong us, shall we not revenge? If we are like you in the rest, we will resemble you in that." :D

it's in the code of conduct for the mods to act better than the average member.

It's actually a good thing for everyone if they do. Mods act well, everyone else acts well. Mods act irresponsibly or immaturely, it tells users that that behaviour is acceptable and the quality of the discussion drops.

I hold high expectations for moderators at any site. (just the same expectations I would hold for myself in their position). It's a position with rewards and disadvantages, which they knew when they agreed to take it. If they're not willing to take up the responsibility, they shouldn't be mods. If they do it well, they should be congratulated.

Honestly BenF46... I would have expected better from a JUB Supporter. Why must you stir up such controversy on this forum.

Ben, what's the point really?

How many times have you been banned?

Yet you keep coming back.

Why?

If memory serves me, hasn't the text of the original posted been posted before by Ben but under a different title some time ago?

There have only ever been the odd occasion when I have seen a mod say something that had the potential to inflame an issue.

They are not infallible and on occasion err.

Irrespective all mods, and have said this to some of them in PMs and in other thread have my utmost respect and support.

Because it is what Ben does...he likes controversy.

Exactly

Yeah.

I've only seen the briefest glimpses of what awaits 'behind the curtain', and it's just not all that pretty.

Must be kind of like working for Disney. Sure, you're privy to what really going on, but then again the fantasy flies right out of Fantasyland...and really, who wants that ?

Ben, how can you title a thread "esteemed" and then question the "high regard" members have for moderators?

Me thinks the pot needs a little blacking.

Once.

Yet you keep coming back.

Why?

Resilience, and this place would go to the dogs if I wasn't here.

Memory does not serve. I would be interested to see which thread you are referring to. Please find it.

Because it is what Ben does...he likes controversy.

And what, exactly, is controversial about this thread?? And just because I write something that you do not agree with, it does not necessarily make it "controversial".

Ben, how can you title a thread "esteemed" and then question the "high regard" members have for moderators?

Because I, unlike others, do not feel the need to write my entire post in the title box.

See, the thing is, I don't like it when I post in a thread and it dies. I consider myself a member of JUB first, just like everyone else that's hit "Reply" to any thread.

I do believe that, as you said Ben, if I say an opinion, many members take it as "Holy crap, a Mod is watching this thread! Oh noes!"

Pffft, I want it to continue! Intelligence is sexy to me after all ;)

That could hardly be the case. I enjoy a very lively discussion, as do all of the mods, as much as the next guy.

However, I swear that all of us are not "bots" that just sit here and monitor JUB all day long - believe it or not, we do have lives!!! :p

I've been around long enough to know that whenever BenF46 uses the word "esteemed" in a sentence, that he's probably/usually full of shit.

But, even with that knowledge, I miss his intellect, and his wicked sense of humor when he's absent for awhile. :)

I'd have used the word "cunt" somewhere in there to honor his thinking of his fellow member/mods, but it seems a bit over used here lately. ;)

I have searched but cannot find it but I know that I saw it a couple of weeks ago and when I saw this post my immediately thought was 'hang on, he has already done this' and to make sure I checked the date of this post and saw that it was Feb 16.

You always get me into trouble when you start those kind of threads. I just can't resist it sometimes, and like looseliam, it reminds me of why I come to JUB. Hence I sometimes get spanked at Mod Towers for encouraging the 'Brit Pack' too much

At the end of the day, its like being surprised that your parents are still having sex - they didn't stop being human when you was born, so why should I stop enjoying JUB just because I'm a Mod?

Bovvered? Face? Face? Bovvered? Do I look bovvered? I don't think so! :D

sorry Mods, I don't really even notice your status when I am posting or reading threads. If I do, it's like, oh, he's a mod.

It doesn't make me behave any better to know they are in a thread. as for counting them - who has the time.

only been Jubber for a month or so - so used to big butch avatar's or user names turning out to be girls - Alpha & Zeremonie both caught me on this - that I really don't look at titles - more likely to check out a home page or gallery than to notice what colour the writing under someone's name is.

(maybe this will finally get me banned?):lol:

I also haven't noticed any great reticence or holding back in the mods posts

this doesn't mean I don't appreciate the time you guys put in, just that I treat you as one of the guys - sorry;)

you still all have my greatest esteem(ww)

I'm surprised a moderator would write that.

Well I would have expected better from a moderator. tsk tsk
