Eurovision 2016 approaches

I thought it was an absolutely wonderful event this year. Just superb. Loved every second and there were so many memorable moments.

I am disgusted that the Australian singer Dami Im did NOT win Eurovision. The competition is political there was NO WAY Europeans were going to allow an Australian to win. I think a non European country has ever won the competition. I laughed so hard at the Russian guy who got third place his song was cheesy and just unprofessional. Dami Im has star quality she will go far if she can find the right people to break her into europe. I just want to point out the professional jury meaning people actually in media and the music industry all of them put Dami Im in first place. This competition is political, the lady from Ukraine is a horrible singer! I laughed at Jarmala or whatever her name is a shit performance! Dami Im I hope her record company can get her deal in Europe she needs to break into Europe next! This is the struggle for Australian singers they are huge down under in Australia or New Zealand possibly Asia but you need to break into Europe and North America to REALLY MAKE IT. Dami Im I heard her single the Sound of Silence is charting on Itunes in European countries so that is good news. Dami Im is a sweet nice girl and I really hope she considers going to Europe and possibly North America. Dami Im record company should definitely get her promoted more in the United Kingdom perhaps Sweden or Germany too.

It's ok, it wasn't part of a big conspiracy. She was amazing and as an Australian I am so so proud of her. I always knew she would be magnificent. In fact, I suggested her long before she was due to go!

I've already bought tickets to her concert. I say we officially add her to the pantheon of world class divas along with Gaga, beyonce, Madonna, kylie Minogue etc. she more than deserves it.

Why not take the chance to listen to some of her other songs now? I highly recommend Superlove to begin with. It's one of my fave songs of all time

I disagree.
Ukraine song is quite good and deserved to win.
So many "dislikes" because of the russians thumb down in mass.

It is noteworthy that large numbers of the Russian public voted for the Ukrainian song, awarding it 10 points, while the Ukrainian public gave Russia's entry the maximum 12 points.

She is a very good singer but the song "superlove" is one of the worse songs i have ever heard.
So repetitive ans so tiresome.

Also Petra Mede deserves a mention for being the best Eurovision host of all goddamn time! Can we just have it in Sweden every year?!

The show was great and a lot of great performances. Manz was so hot looking but I agree with you, Petra was absolutely amazing.

It all started with a dance party and ended up with.. cry me a river. :D

Well, here was the UK entry. It wasn't the worst and it was still better than the winner.\:/

^^

Still, the studio version sounds better:

Nice to notice that the UK is gettig back on the right track! :)

I like Dami Im but she has not conquered the world so how can she be placed in superstar category like Beyonce, Madonna, and Kylie Minogue? She COULD get to that level of success if she works with the right people. She really needs to play her cards right now. The world has finally been introduced to this young lady she cannot waste time. Just read an article on an Australian website and I agree Dami Im record company CANNOT waste time the song sound of silence is charting in European countries. She needs to strike the iron is hot either do a promo tour in Europe or release another album in Europe as soon as possible. I hear Dami Im is going to do a tour of Australia. My question is why? She already conquered the Australian market she needs to focus on the European market NOW! People have short attention in pop music you cannot waste time. If Dami Im wastes this opportunity to reach a wider audience she will regret it forever. Australia is a small market only 20 something million people, and europe is a huge market over 300 million. Europe especially the UK is the gateway to Europe. Dami Im people need to get her to england ASAP she needs to promote herself over there NOW. I bought Alive, Superlove and Sound of silence off of Itunes yesterday. It is sad Dami Im record company is not promoting her in North America. Perhaps the record company thinks going after Europe first is best first for now.

The major sountrack of this years competition is now completed: https://www.thesoundofeurope.com/#/listen.

The composition 'One' was created by a famous Swedish producer Pontus Winnberg, who worked with Madonna and Britney Spears among others and the vocal part was performed by random European people. Thousands of Europeans participated in this social campaign and sang the lyrics of the song. Then, all the vocals were merged to fit into one song. :)

I adore Petra. Mans was great too in an objectifying way but Petra is a goddess! I hope it comes back to Sweden soon because it's my life's ambition to actually attend eurovison there!

Such wonderful songs! You have excellent taste!

I kind of agree that she should focus on Europe now and maybe America later (although it's a tough market to crack). She can definitely go global IMO. Her social media have exploded in numbers and there are comments there from all over the world!

After watching afew more performances,
Sweden's song is my favourite at the moment.
And France is not bad at all ...

Aww, that was lovely. (*8*) They were great hosts, indeed, and all the shows went well for them this year. Having in mind the pattern of the most recent years, maybe it will not take way too long for Sweden to win again as the tendency to send chart hits to the contest remains. Also, people love the national selection contest here as well, which can be compared to a period of sunlight during the darkest and coldest time of the year. :)
Meanwhile, you are very welcome to visit Stockholm and the ABBA museum, where any fan of the ESC and/or Swedish music can find something interesting. Nowadays they even have a special exposition dedicated to The Eurovision Song Contest. I, personaly, would even love to be a guide around this beautiful city for you or any other forumer. :)

Some of the non winners songs are more enjoyable to listen to

Well, most usually Eurovision is a great show with a decent varienty of songs and the voting part which is below criticism. It is a fun short-term celebration of unity between countries, artists and people in general that ends up with a traditional verbal war due to the never perfect outcome of voting year after year. :D
On the other hand, it is probably impossible to choose the best song among 40+ quite decent tracks and acts anyway. Thats's why the political reasons or sympathies overcome the artistry in many cases. To my mind, the ESC can survive in a form of a musical festival with two-three nominations for the best composers, artists and creative ideas (without the ridiculous voting). After all, it is a celebration of unity (at least, in theory) and artistry the majority of European nations can offer. Why ruin this event with a bitter part of voting?

Oh how kind! Careful, I might take you up on that! That idea sounds absolutely lovely and I'm sure it'll be back in Sweden before you know it!

Did you hear the channel that shows Eurovision here in Australia is developing Asiavision now? What do you think about that? I think it's a wonderful idea! I hope it is just as camp as Eurovision is!
