Well, I dont want to ruin the surprise for anyone who likes to enjoy the unique stylings on the night of Eurovision, but we now know the "people" representing Great Britain and Ireland in this years exhibition of "talent" and European relations.

For Ireland; Dustin the Turkey with Irelande Douze Pointe:

And for Great Britain; Andy Abrahams with his "funky" song Even If:

*shudders*

Too bad he didn't qualify

That's such a shame, the song actually grew on me, not so much on the audience who were booing audibly!!

One more semi-final to go on Thursday before Fridays Final extravaganza! I am somewhat embarassed to admit that I am really enjoying it. It is wonderfully camp and fun! And if you have digital TV you can press the red button and have the lyrics on so you can sing along (or just giggle at the bizarreness of them)! :D

Dustin the Turkey Irelande Douze Pointe Lyrics :

Oh, I come from a nation
What knows how to write a song
Oh Europe, where oh where did it all go wrong?
Come on!

Irlande douze points

Drag acts and bad acts and Terry Wogan’s wig
Mad acts and sad acts, it was Johnny Logan’s gig

Shake your feathers and bop your beak
Shake ‘em to the west and to the east
Wave euro hands and euro feet
Wiggle in the air to the turkey beat

Irlande douze points
Irlande douze points
Irlande douze points
Do the funky beat
Come on

D O B double B L E, yeah…

Hello Abba, hello Bono, hello Helsinki
Ola Prague, hello sailor, c’est la vie
Auf Wiedersehen, Mama Mia, and God save the Queen
Bonjour Serbia, good day Austria
You know what I mean

Shake your feathers and bop your beak
Shake ‘em to the west and to the east
Wave euro hands and euro feet
Wiggle in the air to the turkey beat

Shake your feathers and bop your beak
Shake ‘em to the west and to the east
Wave euro hands and euro feet
Wiggle in the air to the turkey beat

Irlande douze points
Irlande douze points
Irlande douze points

Irlande douze points
Irlande douze points
Irlande douze points
Do the funky beat
Come on

Give us another chance, we’re sorry for riverdance
Sure Flately, he’s a yank
And the Danube flows through France
Block vote, shock vote
Give your twelve today
You’re all invited to Dublin, Ireland
And we’ll party the Shamrock way

Irlande douze points – Irlande douze points
Irlande douze points – Irlande douze points
Irlande douze points – Irlande douze points
Irlande douze points – do the funky beat
Come on

Irlande douze points, Irlande douze points

Eastern Europe, we love you
Do you like Irish stew?
Or goulash as it is to you?
(Irlande douze points, Irlande douze points)

Listen Bulgaria, we love you
Belarus, Georgia, Montenegro
Moldovia, Albania, Croatia
Poland, Russia, Ukraine
Macedonia, love you Turkey
Hungary, Estonia, Slovakia
Armenia, Bosnia-Herzegova
And don’t forget the Swiss

I know this is old news, but I wondered what others might think about it. Would you want a song in foreign language to represent your country? I know other countries do, so are the French being just a tad bit xenophobic here?

From France 24:

More flak over French musician's English song

A group of French-loving trade unionists Thursday added their voices to critics of the country's Eurovision contender, Sebastien Tellier, for planning to sing in English in next month's contest.

The 33-year-old electro-pop sensation has sounded a false note in a country proud of its language by deciding to perform his song "Divine" with almost exclusively English lyrics.

"We're not shocked by a singer singing in English, but Eurovision is a strong symbol because it's a country-based contest," said Jean-Loup Cuisiniez, part of a group of unionists who met the Secretary of State for Francophone Affairs Alain Joyandet to protest over the matter.

The group said Joyandet had promised to make sure that next year's contestant would use the national tongue.

Well, my country already sent a song in partly English and some people protested but not like the French...

Btw, :gogirl::gogirl::gogirl::gogirl: Portugal qualified for tomorrow (!)(!)(!)

I am just now watching the replay of the semi-finals. The couple from Iceland was really good, but this girl from Sweden looks like a really bad drag queen, and can only barely sing. But then again, I guess that is the fun of watching this show, right? The tackier the better I guess...

Since when was Israel part of Europe anyway, by the way? Just a thought...

Actually, Sweden's representative can sing. If she couldn't, how did she win the competition in 1999? She's one of the best singers in the competition. Everybody from the US complains that people in Europe sing badly- that's because they sing live and don't lipsynch!

Ok, maybe she does use a little too much makeup on her eyes- SO WHAT? the competition is about the song, not the looks. If looks decided, Iceland would soooooo win!

I may live in the US, but I am not FROM the US, I am from Argentina and I spend a great deal of time in Geneva and Paris every year and used to go to the San Remo festivals every year when I was younger. (Never been to a Eurovision, though...) So I am quite accustomed to European voices, both the good and the bad.

My criticism of the girl from Sweden was simply because she did not carry her tunes very well in this particular performance. I imagine that she can sing somewhat, or as you say, she would not have made it to Belgrade. The point is that I did not like this performance and felt she was no good.

And by the way, if appearance did not matter, then the contestants and the show's producers would not be going through such efforts to create such over the top costumes and effects...

I am realising that almost every country seems to have submitted English language songs. Only Switzerland, Latvia, Turkey, Croatia and Albania so far have had songs in their own languages. How odd...

I just saw Portugal (She was last...), and I can see why Portugal is in the final, because that woman was great. I cannot wait until tomorrow! I think that I will see it live this time, if I can figure out the time difference...

Well, for the first time, Russia has won the Eurovision Song Contest. In 2nd place was Ukraine, 3rd was Greece, 4th was Armenia, and 5th was Norway. I can't wait for ESC Moscow 2009!!!!!! (Yes, I am a big ESC fan)

Seems sad that Iceland and Sweden didn't make it that far... Sweden's song was AWESOME, and the guy from Iceland is sooooo shaggable! *|**|*

I thought Serbia would have done better. I was disappointed because I thought their song was beautiful. But Dima Bilan was excellent and Russia deserved to win. He is such a performer and has a great voice. He has apparently recorded an album in English with Timbaland and Nelly Furtado, but I have not heard it yet. I will have to look for it, because I am now a definite fan. I was never a Eurovison fan before, but I think that I will be waiting with anticipation for the 2009 as well. Honestly, at my age! I should be ashamed...

I just read that the song Dima sang "Believe" was produced by Timbaland. Wow! I thought he was some kind of rapper or something. I didn't know that he could do ballads like that. Nice job...
