Even MORE New Footwear

This is what I was wearing up until today.



Yes, that's a rather sizable hole in the heel and I've been wearing them like this for a few months now... cash flow problems.

However, as of today, I also now have these...and saved $70 though paid about the same, so about 50% off.

Nope, I am a solo act, and always will be. I've just been steadily working at re-establishing my credit, among other things. Those JUBBERS on my fb friends list know the full weight of what I deal with as I'm quite candid about such things.

Like many, I was doing okay for a while, then things bottomed out and mitigating circumstances arose. I have been slowly effecting repair on the fallout of said circumstances, but it's been a long slog, and I'm not out of the woods yet.

I'm too cheap. I watch the thrift stores for months before I find a pair of new shoes. Usually, it's some guy whose wife bought them for him to wear to a wedding or a funeral, and she finally donated them. You can look at the soles and see they've literally only been worn once.

Similarly, I think some buy them for old guys who never dress any more.

You can find good stuff like Allen Edmonds and Cole Haan if you just wait long enough. It's far cheaper to find new cordovan loafers than to have my worn out pair re-soled.

I don't have a problem buying used clothes -shirts, pants, though underwear and socks are off the list, but I'm not keen on wearing footwear that others have worn before me. Who knows what strange pathogens may be lurking within their confines?

One time a few years back I won the proverbial lottery. A friend of mine who managed a local Salvation Army thrift store ( and knows of my shoe infatuation) called me and told me to bring my ass down to his store. He took me into the back room and led me to a huge bin of shoes that just came in. They were donated from a local charity fashion show, and only worn once for that show. I walked out of there with more than a dozen pair of Cole Haan, Prada and Clarke shoes, all practically brand new, for, like $60. I think I peed my pants a little on the way home. At last count I have about 80 pair of shoes.
