My phone # ends in 5052, the person with 5051 texted me just to chat.

I thought it was strange. They tried last year as well.

Has that ever happened to you? Would you talk to them?

No.

I know all my texters except occasionally someone gets one of those group chat spams going and some morons keep texting that they have the wrong number. As much as I like meeting new people, I distrust electronic overtures due to spyware.

Never did. I did get a random number texting me asking if I would "send a picture". So I sent them a child's drawing of house. That sort of ended that.

I get calls all the time from fraudsters who have spoofed my area code and exchange. They always want to "lower my interest rate" or tell me I've won a "free cruise". Maybe you're getting spam texts ??

I don't think so.

I have heard of this. Younger people try to make friends with strangers by texting random people. One of the ways they pick people is by doing a phone number up or down from theirs.

I'm just not into that.

I get tons of scam calls from spoofed numbers about signing up for Health Insurance. They take a break for a month or two and they start right back up i would get several calls a day. The scam call blocker won't block the calls because the numbers look realistic. They usually pick some random small city and blow up my phone they decided to use a local number that looked like my doctor's office number i answered it thinking it was them it was a inpatient person trying to sell me insurance.

So get this...
I contacted a drywaller on Kijiji to quote a job I need done. The texting started off all fine and professional, and we set up an appointment to meet tomorrow, but I think he has started drinking. As I speak, he has been texting me all evening, telling me about his two most recent break ups, even sending me pics of the actual Dear John letters and rather personal pics of said women. I am just stunned and now am afraid to meet with this clown.

Find someone else. Don't let him spackle your crack mikey!

I actually had the sheriff's office 'will you donate ' ask for Candy, then apologize, then go into their spiel. This was after a call from them a month ago and I asked them to remove me from their list. And the month before that, where I asked them who was calling when I first had the misfortune to answer and they were a bit reticent on who was calling for what. Needled them about that after on the second call, at that point they know damned well I'm not giving them money. I tell tem, explicitely, that I am not giving them money and that, should they call again, Broke is my Forever-Answer. 'Is Candy there' my ass. Next time I'm holding the phone in front of an earworm and see how long it takes for them to hang up.

Next time just ask them for a picture of their junk.

On second thought don't do that

I keep getting texts from a SCIU Local Union asking as an apparent member of whoever they are trying to actually reach what issues are important to me for the Union to represent to the legislature in upcoming elections.

I keep responding with inquiring as to what steps need to be taken to allow more states to be Right to Work...

Beggars can't be choosers 😄, but no matter, he never showed. He got his partner to call off. Said they'll come another day.

I was actually watching ABC news with David Muir yesterday, or the day before when this story was airing and got a text from a "Number Neighbor". I haven't replied.

My cell # is my former landline, so I'd expect my number neighbors don't have the ability to send a text. I wouldn't want to play that game anyway.
