The biggest tip-off that a guy is gay and closeted? "No interest in the opposite sex". So, no, they wouldn't exhibit the same characteristics as you. Some do go on dates with women in an attempt to throw people off the scent, but even then, their lack of enthusiasm usually shines through pretty brightly.

That article is a known joke thing somebody did. It's not real. (what I heard anyway) She's obviously trying to get under people's skin for comedic effect, much like a stand up comic does. Lol 'points deducted for being Canadian.' And liking aggressive men, was a parody. Most people aren't programmed to be turned on by actual pain.

I personally find that gay guys are obvious to spot now cause they are usually one or the two types of gay guys:

1. The asshole jocky 'straight acting' type that always says hateful, anti-gay guys to deflect attention from themselves.

2. The quiet gentle boy, that's either a big sissy or has 'in the middle' mannerisms. They tend to be very stereotypically gay in that sense, they are objectively 'wimps' and can't stand up for themselves well. They may be self-loathing through writing or other artistic mediums, but in reality they come across as nice and harmless.

((and there's always sexual chemistry and real heat between the two opposing types, and rarely any genuine chemistry between types of the same, though there is a lot of friendship and camaraderie between two personality types. Ie two girly gays feel really close emotionally in a friendship way but sexually and romantically it's lacking big time.)) Ie str8 acting types feel romantic interest in the softer ones, and vice-versa.

Actually, I'd say most, if not all, at least had strong suspicions.

Look at my avatar. Yes, that's me. Do I look like a stereotypical twink, shopping with his best girlfriends at A&F? No. And yet no one was surprised when I came out. Why is that? Think about that.

Along the same lines, how can 6 year old kids pick out the faggy kids at the playground?

Yet somehow most of the replies in this thread are adults who think they can magically fool people. I don't get it.

Like me. But with me, it's less a case of "well, he says he's straight, so he must be." It's more the case of "well, even if he IS gay, he's not ready to admit it yet, so best just leave that alone."

But that's me. Others find it better to press the issue, and drag people out of the closet.

Of course I am. And of course I've done this before. I thought people knew that's why JUB hired me.

I posted this because of that article I read, quoted at the beginning of this thread. I get so exasperated by JUBbers with their heads in the sand, but that article is proof that many people analyze you whether you want them to or not.

Sticking your head in the sand and being in denial about what people know about you is counterproductive. Believe me, I know. Been there, done that.

My roommate I have lived with for 3 years now has been told by 5 different people I'm gay, one of which was a gay man who wants to get with me! And he still to this day insists to everyone and his best friends (who happens to be my best friend also...) that there is no way i could be gay because a) he would know already and b) i dont show it, i'm just "metro".

Perhaps--just perhaps--your roommate is--like you--a closeted gay/bi man. And perhaps--just perhaps--by insisting you are straight he is building up his own defenses about acting straight because he can't deal with being gay/bi.

The article has nothing at all to do with being gay, but it does show the lengths to which people analyze the friends, fuck buddies, and acquaintances around them.

This woman completely ignores mens self pronouncements about virility and perceptions others have about them and shares with her 3 closest friends (and, now, the world) her experiences and perceptions of men she's had sex with.

Again, nothing about being gay, but lots of analysis of people--analysis that she's willing and able to share with friends.

So if you think people aren't questioning/gossiping about your sexuality behind your back, you are mistaken.

I am not putting this out here to depress you or make you suicidal. On the contrary, it is simply a reality check that PEOPLE DO NOT BELIEVE THE LIES WE TELL THEM.

So get your head out of the sand, move on with your life, and come out of the closet. Because people are already talking about you--and sharing it with others.

We all want to think we're unique. But you know, that's "The Only Gay in the Village" Syndrome. We all want to think our friends are straight, that our parents are straight, that our neighbors and coworkers are straight, that our siblings and cousins and aunts & uncles are straight.

But 10% of the population is gay. 10% of all your neighbors, 10% of everyone on your block, 10% of teachers and professors and police and politicians.

Logic tells us that we hang out with people who share similar interests. So if you're a closeted gay, don't you think that significantly increases the chance that some of your friends are closet cases?

Or are you going to continue to stick your head in the sand and suffer from the self-inflicted "Only Gay in the Village" Syndrome?
