My first thought was 'why?'.

I've never said Americans are assholes, bastards or otherwise. There are, however, a lot of American assholes. Then again, there are also lots of Dutch bastards and British wankers around to even the score.

I have come across LOTS of jerks, from many countries with my job and traveling.

Since I travel mostly in the U.S. of A. (my own country), I would say we have our fair share of morons
on the roads
in diners and food service
in the Senate
in Congress
on television
in retail
and the list goes on.......

I have seen the same in Europe.

I prefer moron to ass****...it just sounds, well, so much more refined.....

America has a very very bad image internationally

even Blair is cutting ties with Bush now...

in the last week he has called the Iraq war disastrous and said that americans are polluting the world, even asked Gore to help him out with the announcement.

i think americans underetimate just how unpopular they have become. all things considered, i think the non americans are rather polite about curbing the rhetoric out of respect to the members here.

I think that I can consider myself French now so that means I am not included in the general concensus of arseholes.

Mind you I would never sink so low as to call anyone an arsehole even if I thought that they were.

Don't forget, by the way, that we are all quite capable of loving the Americans on this board whilst simutaneously disliking their government's policies.

I squat down, spread my cheeks, and think "live and let live" and then push out on this thread. Do you get where i'm coming from? We are a 10% minority in this world let's all pull together. On second thoughts that could get messy. :-)

Oh dear, I hoped at least that people would understand I was being ironic. Apparently some didn't even bother to read the text of my post. Obviously I have nothing against anybody in those countries I named, except their tendency to generalize in what I consider a terribly rude way about the US. Some recent examples:

America also tried to ban 'Gay friendly' Teletubbies and Pingu. Maybe the solution to right wing nut jobs worrying about their children is to castrate the fuckers in the first place...

I think it's sad that a country that advocates, nay rams the concept of Liberty down other peoples's throats should be so unaccepting of these kinds of clubs.

How does America preech about land of the free, and democracy when this kinda stuff goes on... this is UNHEARD OF here in the UK

Yes, ugly things happen here. We're a big country. We have a lot of idiots. All of the examples I quoted relate to things that happened one time in one place. 99% of Americans think they're ridiculous/appalling.

Next I'm going to start combing through your local papers and posting every nasty thing that happens there with the comment "Why does [fill in name of country] always do things like that? That could never happen in the US!".

Slobone, if this is your strategy for being elected "Miss Congeniality", you're going about it the wrong way.

Each of the countries you mentioned have their fair share of assholes, but then so do we.

What about people from countries not mentioned? Are we to assume that they're not assholes? Or that some are and some aren't? Or that they're too boring to be considered? What about people from Lesotho and Norway and Uruguay and Tonga?
