Everything Americans need to know when visiting England

This is really cool! It's an interesting look at all the subtle difference between England and USA or Canada.

There's one problem though. No, everything will not work with nothing more than a plug adapter! Just try it out for yourself! You also need a power converter because the UK uses 240V and 50Hz, whereas North America uses 110V and 60Hz.
I guess a lot of electronics now run on DC power and their power bricks will work between 100V and 240V, but those are the only devices that will not get fried.

Pretty much every phone and laptop is multi voltage.

But for some reason other things you might travel with, like shavers, trimmers, hair dryers and hair straighteners aren't.

More of a problem for women than men, but annoying.

I think you'll find that if you saw American TV in true HD, not the downgraded signal cable and satellite companies give you, our TV looks just as good.

National Public Radio

In that case the original list is wrong.
BBC4 is a TV station
He means Radio 4

It's not the look that lets you down it is the quality of the programmes and the incessant adverts

For those of us who actually travel outside out country (;)) we regularly experience the difference in voltage and pin types between the UK and Europe. That's why there is a healthy trade in adaptors at airports

When Americans step off a curb, out instinct is to look left for those cars coming on the right side of the street. BUT in Britain, it is critical to look to your right. So many tourists have been hurt that they paint arrows just off the curb and the direction to look right. A bus missed my by inches, so I remember, now.

I actually had some really nice espresso drinks and coffee during a recent stay in the U.K. and NOT Starbucks.

More specifically in London, I found the width of subway trains (Tube) narrower than those in New York or San Francisco, by about a quarter or a third, so all trains fill up very quickly. No front-/rear-facing seats (in the direction of travel), at least not on the ones that I rode.
