I am hoping someone here can give me some guidance or advice.

I have my porn stored on two Western Digital My Book external drives. They have worked fine for about a year, and I was just bought a Time Capsule to go with my MacBook Pro so I can back up the data.

Yesterday, I accidentally unplugged one of the two My Book drives, 250 GB. Since then, my computer does not recognize it. It is on, the power works fine. I have tried a different USB cable. The other drive works fine, too.

Is there anything I can do to retrieve the data? Do I need to pay for a data recovery service? Will they look at my files? This particular drive includes my backup Itunes Library, but is about 80 percent porn pics and vids.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Yeah. When the computer turns back on, the light on the front of the working drive flashes on and off as the computer recognizes it. With the problematic drive, that does not happen.

hhhhm. although none of my silver-plated USB cables can make it work, I went out and bought a gold-plated one, and it worked. i am going to back everything up quick and then i guess i will replace the drive.

Can you see if the HD is listed on Disk Utility? Spotlight (Top Right) -> Type "Disk Utility".

That's a good thing!

Well if you can't mount it then you will have trouble backing it up. There are several programs which will help you recover and backup the files... but if it was me then I'd try a repair first.

repair it first like kins said.

if that doesn't work, go out and buy diskwarrior; it works very well. ..|

Big vote here for DiskWarrior as well. It's saved my ass several times with failed drives .
