external harddrive

My Toshiba external hard drive doesn't need drivers. And I think my old (and crappy) WD didn't need them either. Maybe your disc is corrupted? Have you tried on another computer?

I have had very bad experiences with WD. I bought two discs the same month and both were returned. Huge problems with format and connectivity. Of course, I lost a lot of data

You might like to try it on another computer first, because if it does work with another computer, it is likely the fault lies with your own computer than the external HD itself.

I got a 250GB WD drive, and when I first plugged it in, it didn't recognise it. I got it through Amazon, and had to send it back after ringing the WD helpline and following their advice over the phone, step by step.

(I guess your warranty may have expired, therefore, checking with another would be the best thing.)

To cut a long story short, got a new drive, and the same bloody problem. Turned out, my Windows XP was at fault. I eventually had to use the recovery disk to wipe the computer of all my stuff, and return it to factory settings. All my work was erased, so this was a drastic move....

Why not get a memory stick and save your stuff first before considering the move.

if you're using xp; there's the possibility that it's windows xp that's causing your problem.

i still haven't investigated why; but if you're using ntfs, i've seen it not work on windows machines unless your reformat it each time.

Try downloading TweakUI (google for it, it's free from the Microsoft site)

Open up the program and go to

My Computer - Drives

Check if the drive letter your hard disk used to have when you connected it (usually E: or F:) is checked. If not, try checking it. If it is, try unchecking, rebooting and then checking it again.

Have you tried connecting it to another computer?
