When the season ends in January, The series will end as well. It will revert to 4 1-hour episodes per year. Apparently ABC killed the show when they moved it from Sunday nights to Friday nights, dropping two-thirds of its viewers in the process. The freebee sponsors (the ones who donated all the labour and materials so it didn't cost ABC anything except salaries for Ty and his cronies) must not have been pleased.

I, for one, won't miss Ty and his bullhorn.

Neither will I. It went from a show about helping people in need to a two hour commercial for Sears and Craftsman.

^ And Disney.

Sometimes I felt as though the 'unfortunate' families applied to the show just for the free trip to Disney World.

ABC said it will still do 4 Extreme Makeover Specials for the upcoming season.

My only problem with the show was, it seemed they gave people houses the couldn't afford to maintain or pay the taxes on.

So it's been scaled back, not canceled.

Not that it matters any. Less families to hurt.

In the news "MSN" it says Canceled not saled back.. cuz Ty is going to some other talk show.

Ty is going to be on the show that replaces One Life To Live, so he's still under contract to ABC, allowing them to do the 4 specials.

The show has been cancelled. From the article:

Extreme Makeover: Home Edition is getting an extreme makeover from ABC. The network has decided to cancel the Sunday night reality show in its current weekly format.

The feel-good series, which follows host and carpenter Ty Pennington as he and designer Michael Moloney rebuild the homes of needy Americans, will be officially torn down after its ninth season finale on Jan 1, The Hollywood Reporter says.

It will be somewhat rebuilt next year, as it returns in the form of four hour-long specials.

It's sort of like The Waltons and The Brady Bunch coming back for specials after they were cancelled. The only difference is that John-Boy was cuter than Ty and Peter Brady grew up real good.

^Ah. Well then... it's still on ABC right?

Which mean I won't accidentally tune in.

What was it about Ty that evoked hatred?

Something about giving a family a dream house that they can't afford and are thereby worse-off in, causing them to lose it altogether...

Seems a little evil, if you ask me. And not the good hail satan eternal horns sort of evil, either.

I don't hate the man, but I despise the premise of his show and shows like it, like Pimp My Ride. They think they're helping, but they're really making things worse - I think Dov Davidoff (sexy ass man that he is :luv: ) said something about it in a comedy special.

What was it about Ty that evoked hatred?

It's not so much that I hate him. It's more that I hate him for being such a phoney. People think he's carrying the show on his shoulders, but he's rarely there. Do you really think he's doing the 'bonus room'? He's not. He doesn't do anything. He shows up on the set for the 'call out' and the parade and demolition, and he's there for the reveal. He drops in again for a few hours to do those bits where it looks like he's doing something. He's rarely on site.

I hate him for making people fans believe that the people are sincerely desperate. I still remember the Hawaiian family who got a new house. Both husband and wife had good jobs and pulled in over $100,000 each.

I hate him for thinking that people who can't afford their crappy old house that they can afford to pay for the cable bill that's hooked up to 27 big-screen televisions. Seriously, why does a teenager need 3 TVs in his bedroom? How is a father on welfare who can't even afford to buy beds for his three grown sons (who sleep on the floor) supposed to afford the electricity bill let alone the taxes.

I hate him for turning down sincerely deserving families because their problems weren't considered 'sad enough'. People wouldn't watch.

Most of all, though, I hate him for that stupid bullhorn. The guy doesn't even need one. People in the next county can hear him without it.

Oh, and his saggy pants, too. They actually had to pixelate his ass in one episode. He's too old for saggy pants.

This past summer I got the chance to meet Ty and a lot of his crew when they were building a new home near me and I really liked him!! He took the time to talk with me and I think he is a really cool guy! Later that week I saw him again and he remembered me and was real cool to my family too. Just wanted to add my two cents! BTW, I also met the family they were building the home for and they were totally thrilled about the whole thing!
