was curious about this. people don't talk as much there as there do here.

I come from a small family that is spread around the world and even if we are dircetly related to each other no one gives a rats ass

jub is a pleasant distraction. im currently spending a lot of time here, and you guys are swell and all, but i wouldnt miss it too much if it went away. its entertainment.

facebook is, at least for me, a very practical communication tool, like skype, mobile phones, or e-mail. if it stopped working, id have to tediously reorganize a part of my social life. i wouldnt want that.

I like Facebook, but don't use it very much. In fact I recently deactivated my profile there - it seems you actually can't delete yourself completely, you can only deactivate the profile. [If anyone knows how to delete it, I would appreciate the tip ;) ]

JUB I like for entertainment and discussion, talking about various things with people who share your interests or who interesting - or even contrasting - views.

Obviously, life would go on without either of them. However, I don't care much about FB cos I can email and call my friends etc.

I use Facebook to connect with people I know in real life. I use JUB to have discussion about interesting things with people I don't know in real life.

I like Facebook and JUB.

I use Facebook to keep in touch with family and friends who live elsewhere--and since I've worked telecommute for a good decade, I've developed a lot of distant friends.

JUB is in an entirely different category for me.

It is horrible and I look forward to the day when it becomes obsolete.

I'm so sick and tired of everyone living their entire self-obsessed life in public.

I left Facebook over a year ago, never going back to that hellhole.

I closed my Facebook account. What does that tell you?

I like Facebook. I use it to stay in touch with family and friends, but use it with limits.

I like it, don't see reasons to hate it. Easy way to keep in touch with friends and family.

Reasons I hated FB

1- Invasions of privacy, both by FB and by other users
2- Closed system. For example, I can use any email client on any device to access a POP3 or IMAP server, not so with FB
3- Too many apps, games, and other crap. I have better things to do with my time than delete unwanted invitations and find ways to block future ones.
4- Yet one more place to have to check for messages.
5- People not respecting/understanding that I did not want business messages on FB, nor did I check it daily (I lost clients over this, for "ignoring" the urgent request they sent on FB).
6- Just added more background noise to my life.

We're moving to a much more closed, privately owned, Internet, and we will al pay the price for that some day.

As for family and friends - I have a cell phone w/text messaging, a business phone to use on public ads etc., and one email account. That is plenty to keep up with people.

I don't like facebook.

It may be okay for keeping up trivially with lots of people.

But i enjoy having in-depth conversations with people - using just one or two at time. There are not many things of interest that i would announce to everyone at a party, for example.

So if i am at a party - the more people that can hear me, the more generic and trite i become.

But if i am talking to you one-to-one, then i am thinking about you. I will ask and answer more personal questions. if it appears that we are not on track, i can correct what i meant.

It's almost like the difference between what i might say in a postcard verses a letter to someone.

And when i look at what some people say on facebook, i get embarrassed for them. Some things don't seem like they are meant to be shared to everyone.

1-Don't really know how this is.

Uhm, Facebook's privacy violations have been in the news for most of the year, and got them in trouble in several countries, including Canada.

On a personal level, I consider much of what is "shared" on FB without explicit permission of the subject to be a violation of basic privacy. Eg a friend got up one morning to find photos of himself making out the night before all over FB, tagged with his name. While he did not consider it a big deal, that is to me a good example of how few personal boundaries people have now.

Long story short, FB did nothing for me but give me the creeps and add to my daily workload, so I killed it (after looking up the draconian process needed to really delete an account). Email is free, anyone can contact me that way.

I like it.

Especially once I blocked all those stupid farmville, mafia wars games from always showing up.

Facebook is basically a less efficient, cliquish version of twitter.

with Farmville

I'm over Facebook. Waiting for the next big thing. Hahaha

Well, the question as posed in the thread title gets the answer "both," but the actual survey gets a firm "no."

Facebook hardly ever has porn on it.
