Uhm, Facebook's privacy violations have been in the news for most of the year, and got them in trouble in several countries, including Canada.

On a personal level, I consider much of what is "shared" on FB without explicit permission of the subject to be a violation of basic privacy. Eg a friend got up one morning to find photos of himself making out the night before all over FB, tagged with his name. While he did not consider it a big deal, that is to me a good example of how few personal boundaries people have now.

Long story short, FB did nothing for me but give me the creeps and add to my daily workload, so I killed it (after looking up the draconian process needed to really delete an account). Email is free, anyone can contact me that way.
you should have seen youself stoned. it was nice

I'll let Mr. Knucklehead speak for me:

I don't dislike facebook - there are a few people who I only contact there, but I'm a very light user. I've blocked some people, and most apps. If it disappeared from my life I wouldn't repine. I was hoping diaspora might be the next big thing, but apparently the pre-alpha version is so riddled with security holes that it will need to be completely rewritten.

I love facebook, not too sound pretentious but I guess being younger its much more relevant;

- Good place to share photos from the weekend
- Keep in touch with friends from High School now that everyone has gone to different Uni's / working
- Organising events/parties
- Being able to keep up to date with things going on with friends you don't see often
- Always have access to contact/communicating with friends
- Networking between friend circles

The games are just added there, their not forced - you can block them, I don't think its really an excuse to deactivate facebook unless you just don't like facebook itself.

I think one of the best things about facebook is a reference point for getting to know people, which some may argue is an invasion of privacy but there are enough settings to allow you to share what you want to with others while being really open with close friends.

And people have already covered the fact it allows you to keep in contact with family/friends living abroad :)

I spend more time, 20 times, on FB as on JUB.

There I get to choose my friends and don't have to endure all the haters and trolls that inhabit JUB.

I get to keep in touch with my true friends and family there, as well.

I'm also a relatively new convert to Twitter, where much of my time is currently spent...

Not an avid user of Facebook here. I use it mainly to store photos and contact pals who has Blackberry since texting and calling are long dead here.

But hey, at least it has more grace than the tweeting Twitter.

I really like Facebook. There's plenty of hot guys on there. (!)

Porn stars just don't do it for me. I need someone "natural".
I've had a MySpace account for years but Facebook doesn't seem too incredibly different. Although, I've been losing interest in such websites, MySpace seems to be a great way for a singer/musician to promote one's music.
The biggest technological difference between Facebook and MySpace are:

1) Facebook has less lag. Its still buggy but all the customization and media on Myspace made it REALLY laggy.
2) Facebook has "tagging". This makes it easier to share your friend's photos. While each person only had a few photos on Myspace, plenty of people have 1000+ photos of them on Facebook.
