I am a high school teacher and a student has started a Facebook page about my class. Although nothing negative has been written yet from those who have posted, I want the page to be cancelled before someone does write something negative or obscene. They are after all high school students.

I did flag the page, but a window popped up and said that someone may check out the site and that they may or may not get back to me. I have been all over Facebook and cannot find a way to contact the Facebook administration about this webpage. Does anyone know how to contact the powers that be?

Thank you very much in advance!

Worse than students getting on that darned internet, what I have a problem with is people on forums creating misleading titles for their posts.

Getting in touch with ANYONE at FB is hopeless.
What a fucking horrible site......I'm tempted to cancel my account.

I cancelled mine quite awhile ago. FB is a joke. Not to mention that if you're out there looking for a job, you better have a REAL clean FB page. The HR people are looking up people on FB to see what you're like outside of the work world.

FB is nothing but more of "big brother is watching you". I prefer to maintain my privacy.

Even with my security set to practically unuseable....... .......I still don't LIKE it even though I do like getting back in touch with SOME classmates.......
That fucking FRIENDING thing needs to be tuned up though........ :grrr:

How is the title misleading? If something is in print that is untrue it's libel.

This is something for the Head of the school to deal with.

For something to be libel, it doesn't just have to be false. It also must be malicious for the purpose of defaming a person.

For example I could post you have purple hair, even though your hair is blond. That's not libel, that is just false and there was no malicious intent to defame you.

This situation however is a very delicate. If students are not using the facebook page to defame you or your class in anyway I highly doubt you will be able to get it taken down.

This however is something you will need to bring up to the head of your school. He will likely investigate with the help of your Superintendent (if your in the US, no idea about other parts of the world) to see what their options are.

Good Luck.

Did you hear about May 31 being "Quit Facebook Day"? There's been a bunch of online press lately (like here and here) about the movement. :=D:

Check out this NY Times graphic about their convoluted privacy settings. :) At 5830 words it's longer than the US constitution. :) There's even an issue that if you cancel your account or manually remove your photos before doing so, but people have commented on them, they can still remain.

I do have a Facebook account for keeping in touch with graduated classmates, but keep on top of the privacy settings and still proceed under the assumption that anything you post there could (through whatever setting or friend-of-friend or breach) be public.

Have you ever come up with the simplest way to handle problems? Talking to your students about your concerns? I doubt so. You are probably one of those teachers who sit in the front of the class and your students just have to operate, to work, to behave, to function. No communication, no interaction at all.

Instead of giving your students some examples about how modern communities should deal with conflicts, by interacting, discussing, negotiating, finally solving matters, your only solution is to run for authoritities to solve YOUR problem.

I pity you and most of all, your students. ](*,) ](*,) ](*,)

Btw, running to a gay porn site forum for adive is certainly not the smartest idea from a teacher who believes so much in authorities, Mr. Teacher.

I have the "Delete my Account" link saved in my bookmarks. Facebook is becoing nothin more than a fuck up, and if it weren't for my friends and the photo's of a few memorable nights on the bottle, i'd have deleted it ages ago.

I have deactivated my account in the past a few times, just because it's so frustrating, but the actual "Are you sure you want to delete your account?" page is buried deep within the Help page. Even then it'll take 2 weeks for my page to properly dissapear (and it won't go away properly, still be some remnants of my stuff on there)

most of my settings are "Only Me" and "Only Friends" lol

If Facebook won't delete anti-gay and Holocaust denial groups they probably aren't going to bother with your 'class page'.

Just ignore it. And even contemplating legal action (libel) toward teenage students screams 'personal insecurities'.

You want... but what right do you have to take down their (or his) page? Seems pretty lame to me...

I don't understand much of the paranoia over the site. All of the information is superficial that can be found in a phone book. Only allow friends to see your profile, don't post provocative pictures and use common sense.

I have a lot on my page and feel perfectly safe having it out there for others to view.

Your content may be 'clean' but how you view it may not be.

This was an article on yahoo today. http://hotjobs.yahoo.com/career-articles-psssst_your_boss_is_spying_on_you-1265

While some of the stuff may seemed farfetched, others are completely true. My brother sent me pictures of his pets to my work email once and HR intercepted them. I got a slap on the wrist for it but yah.

People have been fired from my work for viewing facebook while at work on their phone. Morale of that story: don't publicly decree (on the internet) you hate your job while at work. Thats why I use my personal phone to text and my corporate phone for business stuff only.
