If you've been thinking of doing some housekeeping in Facebook, now might be a good time:

The time to edit your online persona is now

Facebook is the virtual home to more than 800 million active users, so any change to how the network operates is a big deal. And nothing could be bigger for the social hotspot than completely revamping everyone's front-facing profile page, and that is exactly what is happening today. Starting this morning, the new Timeline feature — that up until now has been an optional switch — is now mandatory.

The Timeline differs from the default profile pages we know and love in several ways. Now, rather than showcasing only your most recent posts, your personal front page can be scrolled back months or years at a time. Most importantly, this change can offer visitors a glimpse at your entire social networking past, all the way back to the day that you joined up. The revamp can be both a blessing and a curse for seasoned social networkers, as it can produce a bit of pleasant nostalgia, but also drag up some of your less proud public moments.

Ashy, that's not right. I'm able to see every single post back to when I first joined in 2006...

This is one Facebook change that I liked

Me too... the timeline is a much better format.

The thing they need is a public filter so you can say "I don't want people to be able to see or search prior to Jan 2, 2011" or something like that.

Oh darn, I deleted my facebook a few weeks ago..

It's a free service. If they want to make everybody use their new format, I don't exactly feel the need to march on corporate headquarters to make them change my mind. It just meant I had to redo my goofy profile pic.

Funny that this is the second time they proclaimed that every profile changed.

The 1st time they said this late last year, only my profile and 10% of my friends changed.

I was being sarcastic, I deleted it because I lost interest in using it over a year ago and it was just sitting there pointlessly.

I haven't even created one to delete. I doubt if there's anyone out there looking for me anyway.

I hate the timeline layout. I think it's ugly and less organized. I'll probably end up closing my facebook account.

I hate it not because of the useless info people will get, but because if I wanted my page to be myspace I would have kept myspace.

This is annoying as shit to me - I like having a basic page that doesn't look cluttered.

It was supposed to be mandatory December 23rd, but I guess they reconsidered.

I like the timeline layout. It looks more like a Tumblr, which I enjoy.

I really enjoy the timeline layout. It is beautiful IMO, and a lot more organized to produce that nostalgia effect.

I switched over a few months ago and went through my timeline and instantly hit a wave of nostalgia remember all the good times and old status updates and conversations I had.

If you actually used Facebook as it was intended, you will love this feature.

If it weren't for the fact that I will never stop stalking some people on the net, I would have deleted my account because of this timeline shit.

I guess it doesn't really matter all that much, but I'm getting old and I don't like change. The new theme looks a little cluttered to me and I don't like having to re-learn things just to keep in touch with people.

And now people can more easily find drunken posts I made years ago? Super !oops!
