So true! I only see "warnings" on FB about climate change and Covid-19 on posts from the WHO or other trustworthy sources, but never ever with the crazy anti-vaxxers, conspiracy theorists and climate change deniers.

I logged into FB today to weed out all the Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays bullshit, only to find I cannot post for 7 days because of something I posted. No idea what because it referred to an album of 120+ cartoons that I saved last time I logged in in October or November. Fuck them.
 
^ Now that I think of it... Does that mean they "save up" their 7-day ban if you don't log in for a few weeks to start it when you log in again? And does that mean that the banned content was visible to others until I did? Strange strange creature.

I am now out of FB Gaol again...but I am being much more careful on the sites that I know are patrolled by the delicate far right KOCH snowflakes.

I did manage to post my pic of a hoe and obliquely reference Joe Manchin though.

I have decided to let it go. Removed the app from my smartphone and while it's still on one laptop, I am thinking about putting up a message next week to all friends to contact me in other ways henceforth. I've already done the same in all the new year's wishes I sent yesterday. FB is simply too eager to find fault with people, and it's all bots and logarithms, not a single human being involved.

I think it might. If I look in my own circle of friends, Use of Facebook seems to be lowest among the most reasonable people and highest among the ones who are crazy, but not in a good way. Most of the people I had on my Facebook were old friends, estranged former colleagues from the short period in life that I had a real job, and people that I never really met but who just followed me because of shared interests. Most of what I saw in my feed seemed to be designed to make me uncomfortable: fringe politics from left and right, charities begging for money, cheesy memes and jokes, science denial, vaccine denial, climate denial, or ads for vehicles that I would never buy because A) I cannot drive, B) they are not exported to the country I live in most of the time and C) I like my cars to be as small and low in fuel consumption as possible. And yet I spent ever more time on it for a while, until it reached several hours on some days.

A timesink, that's what it is. The interesting people are elsewhere. So yeah, I'm leaving.
 
The last two days, FB is bombarding me with dozens of really stupid ads for shit I would never consider, let alone buy.....I think that the appeal they have to mainstream advertisers has really collapsed over the last couple of years and it is all hucksters and scammers from Asia flogging garbage to niche audiences.
 
Facebook Inc, sorry, Meta as it is now called, clearly no longer wants me as part of its product. I stopped using my FB a few months ago to avoid another ban and keep the archive that's on it (although I have all those pics elsewhere too, it just feels nicer). But I still used instagram, in the most uncontroversial way possible: nothing but still life paintings, statues, ceramics, flowers and outdoorsy things. No politics posted nor followed.

And then out of the blue I get "Try again later. How often you can do certain things is limited to protect our community."

Apparently the innocent little souls on instagram need to be protected from my love for still life paintings by Matisse, Bonnard and Lê Phổ. Go figure.
 
I have finally "had it" with Facebook.

Half the time, it doesn't even work; blank pages and action boxes with nothing but the rotating circle. At the bottom of the browser is a never ending 'Waiting for...some server'.

My newsfeed is inundated now with ads for ridiculous stuff, or stupid clickbait pages that take you to more ads.

Any groups I might be interested in, get overwhelmed in the comments with fascist, Nazi, hate propaganda and anti-vaxx disinformation.

I can't stand it anymore. My FB account has been deactivated for a while now. I log back in if I need to see something locally in my neighborhood, or for some specific family or personal reason. Then I deactivate it again.

FascistBook is committing its own suicide and will become nothing but a place for extremists to hate each other, if they don't do something. But they won't do anything.

I have blocked over 50 ads this morning from a Chinese based company with about 50 different brands that is exploiting social disruption in Canada by 'printing' propaganda clothing items.

Just a flood of shit. there is no sophisticated algorithm at this point. Just Facebook firing random ads out there because I am from Canada.

I honestly am looking forward to the Zuckerberg experiment crashing and burning at this point. Maybe someone can create a more enjoyable social media experience that isn't always being hijacked by the far right wingers?
 
OMFG - now FB is limiting how many times you can like post on your feed within a certain amount of time = WTF!
