**** Mind you, this thread isn't poverty pimping, which is super gross, for the most part we, or at least I, can tell when someone is doing something nice and sharing it for sincere reasons vs for likes/shares/attention [such as Drake's corny ass God's Plan video or videos of these cornball rappers walking around passing out Iphones or wads of cash]

Video froze on me, it's a kind gesture though, did she include the insurance and gas money ?

Reminds me of that show, some poor down on their luck family get a brand new house built for them, i always wonder if they can afford the upkeep or do they sell it once the circus has moved on.

No, they couldn't. That upkeep sent a lot of them running. They couldn't even afford the cable bills for the 7 big screen televisions most of the houses had installed. It was a showcase for Ty Pennington who was never at the site except to do his scenes.

Read a few of the horror stories after the show: https://www.ranker.com/list/extreme-makeover-home-edition-fake/cheryl-adams-richkoff

Most acts of kindness are nothing more than feel good actions that serve no other purpose than make people feel good about themselves. These actions do little for the people who need help.

I wish cynics would stop acting like they have a monopoly on reality. Many people do the right thing, and for the right reason. Pardon the redundancy, but most people who say "most" don't really know what they're talking about.

THAT is poverty pimping. And it's fucking gross.

If I recall correctly, the series began with the crew going into someone's home and fixing all they problems they couldn't afford to fix by themselves. The family got nothing more than a fixed house that they could afford and safely live in. It all changed when the show became a commercial for every product under the sun and a showcase for Ty Pennington's lunacy.

I felt sorry for the families. They couldn't afford the homes they had before and they were given mansions. At least the Clampetts had oil.

A few weeks ago I was on my way through the parking lot to see my doctor. A man and (I presume his wife) were trying to get an elderly lady into their car, I think that she was the man's mother. This elderly woman was ready to fall out onto the pavement as the 2 people had no clue as how to move a person from a wheel chair to a car seat. I helped her back into her wheel chair and asked her if she could stand with some help, she said that she could. I told her and her son that we would stand her up and turn her around and then she could sit down on the car seat and swing her legs in. It took little effort.

A few years back I found someone standing in front of their car on a busy road. He had his phone in his hand and was dazed, I asked if their had been an accident and he nodded. The other car was down an embankment in a water filled ditch. The young female driver came crawling out of the weeds. I had called 911 and asked her if anyone else was in the car, she told me their wasn't. I kept her and the other driver calm until the police and rescue people showed up. Then I explained what I came across to the cops and left.

I didn't get involved to feel good, I did it because it's what decent people that care for their fellow humans do.

No disrespect to anyone, cynicism is justified as I myself acknowledged "poverty pimping" in this very thread, but a truth I've found most consistent is that what people see in others is often a reflection of themselves. People who don't care about others assume the same for everyone else, people who are selfish assume everyone is out for self. I've seen enough unrewarded kindness and even people risking their lives to help others to know that this whole isolationist, everybody's-a-prick rhetoric is absolute and total garbage. every day firemen risk their lives, police officers risk their lives to protect the community, teachers teach and I promise you none of the above are doing it because those fields are soooo lucrative.

This might bring a little faith in humanity to law enforcement.

https://fox45now.com/news/local/trooper-helps-stranded-motorist-get-to-job-interview-on-time

An Ohio State trooper came along a man walking along the highway after his car tire blew out. He was headed to a job interview, a job he had wanted since he was 18. The trooper took him to the interview so he wouldn't be late. The man ended up getting the job.

Though I wasn't forward-thinking enough to bookmark, I've seen some videos of cops doing some really dope things, on an episode of Cops [looooooooove that show] an officer responded some crazy old nutjob [are we still allowed to say that?] complaining about kids playing basketball near her yard [near, not in, the hoop was across the street, she was worried if they got too close and fell on her property their parents would sue] anyway the responding officer wasn't a dick at all, he helped the kids move the net further away from her house and balled with the kids for a moment. It was so sweet, only dampened by the knowledge that many other cops would've handled the situation very differently and probably way more aggressively.

I agree, I have found people who suspect others of being thieves or liars are guilty of the same.

Cosign. This is most telling with infidelity, people who are cheaters often accuse their mates of the same, they assume the other is also cheating, that the other secretly knows about their unfaithfulness and is out getting revenge. For all our faults, ours is a fantastic species capable of incredible acts of selflessness. We just passed the anniversary of 9/11, although tragic it is also an event filled with stories of heroism, bravery and selfless acts.
