Family Guy: "Oh my God. They killed _______" (Spoiler inside)

Having watched the episode I really don't think Vinny will stick around. His character really does not work with the show long term, also it means they are having to hire another voice actor!

If Brian doesn't come back, I think this episode will be what causes a schism in the Family Guy fanbase. I really like Vinnie as much as I liked Brian and I thought that final scene with him and Stewie at the end of the episode was very sweet, but I know what's going to happen to the fans, There will be the fans of the current Family Guy with Vinnie and the fans of the old Family Guy with Brian and they are constantly and I mean constant-fucking-ly going to be at arms with each other. Essentially, I think that if they don't bring back Brian and they keep Vinnie, the fanbase will be forever split.
How do I know this, the same thing happened with the Avatar: The Last Airbender fanbase when The Legend of Korra came out. With both series' being good even though they're very different, the Avatar fanbase split into fans of both series', and the Avatar: The Last Airbender-only diehards.

I was so sad :( Brian was awesome! Fox really jumped the shark with this one...

I'm gonna be the only one that says I didn't like Brian. :? I thought he was annoying and pompous. Vinny doesn't fit in, but yeah we'll see where that goes. They tried a 'new' dog before that didn't last either.

Too bad it won't be permanent, I stopped enjoying the Brian character years ago due to his overzealous political preaching and general douchebag attitude.

Family Guy has been running on fumes for years now. Unfortunately, it still makes money, so any chance of it going out on top is gone.

I thought he was pompous too - but the thing that made it work was that he always got what he deserved; three of my favorite newer episodes were with Bill Maher, that girl from The Hills, and, shockingly, the Rush Limbaugh parody, because he got put in his place - outclassed, outmatched, and called on his bullshit. So that made him work.

Now I have to see this new episode - the fact that people are still talking about it either means it did its' job.

Yeah, but the intent was never to kill off Brian permanently when the family had gotten a new dog.

Actually, correct me if I am wrong, didn't the family have two separate episodes where they had gotten a new dog in the past?

Just the one I can remember - New Brian... but they didn't kill Brian in the process, they just pushed him aside.

That is, until he messed with Rupert.

Nooo!! Brian is the only major TV character who has successfully battled a drug addiction! He's been an inspiration to many of us.

Yes, there was New Brian and then there was another episode where there was a younger, cuter dog that entered the picture. Anyway, as I said, in those episodes, the intent was never to get rid of Brian permanently as there has always been some sort of reconciliation with the family at the end of the episode. I wonder how the new Family Guy theme will be, if they change it.
