Family who are 'too fat to work'

At least Daisy and Onslow made it funny, and they didn't even have a swimming pool, sauna, and room for a pony:

EVERY country has these rubbish living amongst them. In the States, you call it "Trailer park trash"?? The problem is they cannot be bothered to work. End of story. Millions of fat people (myself included ) go to work all over the World. If you are a genuine case (disability or medication etc) then fair enough..........by the way, us here in the United Kingdom still use stones for weight.

This is not the mindset of the typical overweight or obese person....that must be said.
Food is an addiction and can become like a drug for the body. The problem doesn't lie in a simple "don't eat too much" or "start exercising." That's like telling someone with a heroin addiction "stop shooting up."

It's about habits...learning the good ones and battling to stick with them. Any person who has lost a great amount of weight (fifty pounds or more) will tell you that it never stops, that you are always battling old habits and fighting hard to stay healthy.

Don't judge the person you see on the street. If a woman is overweight, how do you know she hasn't been losing weight for a year and used to be larger? If you see a thin person, how do you know that person doesn't have as horrible of eating habits and as sedentary a lifestyle as someone twice his or her size? Trust me, there are a LOT of those people around.

This is an isolated story that should NEVER be used to represent what is a real problem in people's lives that many work very hard to overcome.

Thank You so much Trans!!!:=D::=D:

Reading some of these posts...I see nothing but small minded people with their own stupid, warped ways of thinking.

My point Jasun was that you made it all inclusive, which is a blanket statement. I agree most are fat by their own doing, but talking to doctors or looking at medical journals show there are quite a few other reasons as well.

Thank You baby Jesus for giving me a birth into a skinny family. amen.

all joking aside, those people need to really re-evaluate the way they live.

Absolutely not true. Believe it or not, there are overweight/obese people that don't eat enough.

Like those starving fat kids on the TV. Those African children in the charity adverts, they are starving to death and have tiny arms and legs but their tummies are huge! I don't understand how their stomachs can stick out so much if they don't have any food

Wow, if I had a son who described me this way, I'd eat my feelings, too. Perhaps, you're the reason your dad is self-destructing. Ever think about that?

Okay, I read the article. This quote is ridiculous, such an excuse:

"All that healthy food, like fruit and veg, is too expensive. We're fat because it's in our genes. Our whole family is overweight," she added.

However, some of you all called them "lazy" which might be true but considering the health problems(like asthma, which I've had for almost 25 years) that some of these family members have as a result of their obesity, they could be disabled. What they're essentially doing is committing slow suicide. I do believe they're making lame excuses for it but I can't believe how insensitive some of you are about this situation. Have some bloody compassion.

i get what you're saying about some cases can be different, and some people may acutally be genetically 'defected.' but this case is NOT read the last quote where she says they don't know how to lose the weight, and blah blah they want to stop the abuse... okay, they don't know how? how about a fucking diet? i KNOW they go to the market have they seen a magazine cover in the last 10 years?? sometimes when im bored in the line waiting to pay i acutally count how many of the magazines have some sort of diet plan on the cover. (BTW ITS TOO MANY). but that's not all! do they watch TV? they ahve to do that too... they're LAZY how many diet/weight loss commercials are on TV everyday.. too many... how many talk-show hosts talk about eating healthy, and give examples, and have chefs tell you how to cook it, and keep it in a budget? too many. they are lazy this is not a special case they want pity and more welfare

Edema from malnutrition.

"All that healthy food, like fruit and veg, is too expensive. We're fat because it's in our genes. Our whole family is overweight,"
The last thing I want to do is defend these people, but.... I think it's generally true that it's more expensive to eat healthy. Organic options are always more costly; fruits and vegetables are cheaper frozen/canned than fresh. And of course, the mainstays of poor-college-kid cuisine, Ramen noodles and Mac & Cheese, are both dirt cheap and pretty unhealthy.

I'm not trying to be an apologist for unhealthy behavior. But the most economical option is often not the highest quality food. Everyone I know with special dietary needs (diabetes or wheat allergies, for example) has higher food costs.

For the daughter training to be a hairdresser, Blackburn College has a perfectly good gym (although if memory serves, it is right next to the canteen).

I know as well as anyone how hard it is to have the will power to make healthy choices in food and exercise, but their excuses are nonsense.

It is a fallacy to claim that healthy food is too expensive. Organic avocados maybe but everyday stuff - no. £50 a week will buy far more fruit and veg than they could ever need.

Much as I can't stand the shrieking witch, these people need a visit from Gillian McKieth.

Fat people can and do work! The tone of some of the posts in this thread suggest that fat people CANNOT work, which is total nonsense.

Most fat people who don't work and live on state benefits CAN work but choose not to.

greaves' manager at work is very fat. She earns a lot more money than greaves, is brilliant at her job, and, as she is still in her thirties, will go on to earn even more promotions and more money.

Here are two not very fat, but plump people who claimed incapacity benefits and all the other benefits which follow on from that, on their yacht in the Islas Canarias:

They were sentenced yesterday:

Go figure ;)

Well at least they are a hot looking family!

I can''t look at that picture without giggling  I am cruel.

How come they have time to bitch and moan about how they can't afford vegetables and pose for photographs but they don't have time to exercise.

Here are three more benefits cheats who claimed incapacity benefits. Not fat, but certainly living off the fat of the land:

There is rumoured to be a case where the incapacity benefit claiment, who suffered from debilitating spinal pain which made it impossible for him to walk 10 metres, went on pilgrimage to Fatima in Portugal - go google - and was miraculously cured.

He claimed in court that he celebrated his "cure" by running "for charity" (natch) in the London Marathon (26 miles), and had not had time to notify the DWP of his "cure".

greaves is skeptical about the truth of this story, but...

And just to address this "healthy food is more expensive" myth.

Fresh fruit, meat and veg - at least here in the UK - are MUCH cheaper than ready-made meals/ready-made pizzas/canned vegetables etc etc... the stuff, in other words, you stick in the microwave for 2 mins.

Never allow processed food of any description to pass your lips.

If you eat crap don't be surprised if you feel like crap.

Funny. Switching from regular coke to diet coke made me lose 15lbs almost instantly. (I'm in Europe, so YMMV)

Agree with the rest, though.

Yes, If you are going to drink soda, diet is the best. It will help you lose weight as opposed to regular soda with all the high fructose corn syrup and calories.

OMG I remember that girl from the X Factor

They clearly want to be famous!

Im not a big fan of fatties. Alot of em often call me anorexic to boost their self- esteem. but whatevs. I hate being squished against a wall on the metro when fatties get on, or to be compacted between two of 'em while sitting on the bus, and i've often said, they should be charged double-fare.

seriously, if we had to put every obese person on welfare, the system would simply collapse.

That's mostly true here in the US as well. But in my earlier post I wasn't referring to pre-packaged meals; I was talking about basic food stuffs. Take plain old bread, for example. The cheep stuff is pretty low quality -- nothing but simple starches that turn quickly to sugar. If you want to get something with a wide variety of grains (not just wheat), and maybe some flax or something to boost Omega 3s, then it's double or triple the price.

I'm not arguing that it's financially impossible to eat well on a limited budget. But I do think there are some class issues at work here; can a poor family really afford to buy organic? Or does their poverty condemn them to eat irradiated foods full of hormones and pesticides?

More squarely on the topic: what I find disturbing on this thread is the snap judgments people are making. While it may be true that most are obese due to their own choices, it's clear that not all are. I don't like "general" rules when they are applied indiscriminately to particular circumstances. I would think that anyone here, dealing with a world that's mostly straight, would get that.
