Next Monday will be my 1-year anniversary in terms of getting myself back to the gym. I've been so diligent this past year. The results have not been too dramatic, but many people noticed the difference, especially during this past summer.

For about the first 10 months, I did my workouts by myself, and then I got a personal trainer 2 months ago. Last week, I told him that my concern was the fat I still have in my stomach (beer gut even though I don't drink beer) and lower abdominal region. He suggested that I stop eating carbs late in the day and, also, eat the number of grams of protein as my body weight in pounds.

Has anyone had success with a low-carb/high protein diet? This is day one for me on it (I told myself I'd start after Thanksgiving), and already I cheated with a few crackers. I'm addicted to carbs.
 
I dont know... I suggest that on top of cardio that you lift weights. Muscles burn continuously versus cardio that burns now.
 
Your trainer gave you some sound advices. I'm a carb junky and I do eat lots of carbs (pasta, rice, bread, etc.) but I do lots of cardio and weight lifting to compensate.

My little brother cut down his carb intake as well as sugar, beer, etc. and lost his beer belly within a couple of months. He does a lot of weight training too.
 
Thanks! Most of the exercise I do nowadays is weight training with just a moderate amount of cardio. I'm only a few days into the diet, and already I'm cheating a lot. Maybe I'm making the change too drastically.
 
Stay away from simple carbs. Sugars, white rice, regular pasta. Complex carbs are OK. Yams are my current favorite!

Yea hot me its hard to stay from this ... sad ...but i must find something other to eat when i want to eat sweets
 
Cool! I don't like the simple, refined carbs, anyway. And yams are my favorite thing!
 
Go with the low carb diet, worked very well for me.
about 30grams of carb/day will do
