Outside of utilitarian talk, my father never talked with me. I was something inexistent for him, some product of some sin he had commited with my mother, a sin men had to commit according to his upbringing, but still a mortal sin.
 
When I was 12, I kept being caught with dirty magazines. I'd call up Playboy, Penthouse, Playgirl, High Society, etc., etc., dropping my voice down a pitch to fool the operator, ordering up magazine subscriptions...and requesting to be "billed later." They would come to the house via mail. Because I'd get home from school before my parents got off work, I was able to usually get ahold of the mail first. Occasionally though, they'd come on my parents off day, so sometimes I'd get caught.

Well, anyway, to make a long story short, I came home from school one day and both my parents were there. When I went to my room, I saw an opened copy of High Society magazine (that had just come in the mail that day) on my bed. About a minute later, my father comes in...and we proceed to have "the talk." The whole thing was funny, because I could tell that this all came about from them seeing the magazine come in the mail and that my mother (who was always the one who found the magazines in my room) probably pressed my father to finally step in.

I remember I asked him questions that I already knew the answer to. I just wanted to see how he'd respond. Like for instance, I asked my dad what "solo sex" was (this was about a year after I had already discovered masturbation.) I can tell he didn't appreciate having to answer that question. I'll never forget how he prefaced it. He said, "first of all, I think it's disgusting..." LOL

My step mom was sitting in our living room with my dad, me, and my sister, and suddenly she looked up and said, "You guys never had the talk have you." I learned everything from TV and movies like normal kids.
 
I had fish and dogs - and cats -- and when my Dad had male friends over - he would ask me questions about the fish -- which were egglayers, which were livebearers, how did they ferilize the eggs, what about the livebearers, how do they do it? - and i would explain in much detail about gonopodium's and gravid spots - and gestation periods for the livebearers - and "group" spawning for the egg layers -- and after my explainations - he would look at the man friend - and say - see -- he knows all about it !! and that was that!! after a few times, i was like, geeze, how many times do i have to explain this to you, don't you get it?

my parents didn't say a word about sex, masturbation or anything of the sort. I was left to finding things out from my older brother, friends and sex ed classes in school. Guess they didn't feel comfortable talking about it or something. I will definitely talk with my son about it. I don't want him to be left in the dark like I was.

my mom made my dad do it. i think she even went out and got a book and everything (or they got it from the library, which is even funnier). my dad must have cleared his throat 15 times flipping through the book, pointing out various things and doing his best to explain them without passing out of sheer embarrassment. i'll bet if i ask him today, he'll say it was the most awkward 10 minutes of his life. he does NOT do well with stuff like that hah.
 
I never had the talk with my parents. I feel like most of the kids I grew up with when I was a young teen learned that stuff from school, from tv, and/or older siblings. We had an excellent sex ed program at our middle school and high school so it was great to be able to avoid such awkward conversations with parents haha.

I didn't learn form my parents. Well, I remember coming back from 5th grade in 1991 and my mom going casually over it and leaving books around about puberty. But it wasn't until the end of 6th grade (a year later) that I came across a book at the public library called "What is a Boy? What is a Girl?" (where they showed actual photographs of boys and girls/men's and women's genitals) and my older bro's friend actually showed me about masturbation that same year. When I was about to cum I told him to stop 'cause I felt like I was going to pee and he just kept on going until I shot out. After that, we became regular jack-off buddies. My sex education was basically my sister being told to pass on a book for me to read which was all about the birds and the bees. It was quite a comprehensive book and covered everything from pubic hair to homosexuality. I learnt a lot from that book and although it would have been nice for them to sit me down and explain a few things I just kind of dealt with it on my own (as usual).
