In several genres, it is a common thing to present two men as faux gay, in bromance, sometimes oblivious to the appearance, at other times, self-mocking at the situation.

And, certainly there is a market for the poke in the eye of conservatives in society who might be offended.

But, what of the popularity of such duos in the media-consuming public? Is it a latent homosexuality? Is it a self-acceptance of male-male platonic love? Is it an assertion of machoism via tolerance and acceptance of what they do not prefer but need to be seen to accept? Or something else?

The new T-Mobile commercial for Christmas is a good example. The actors continue the toying with a mock gay vibe that was a constant in Scrubs.

I'm multi tasking with too many tasks.

I only gave it a quick watch. Did he invite him in or leave him standing outside? Big difference.

It's just advertisers cashing in on the growing acceptance of gay culture.

The actors are familiar. If they used two unknown actors it would be something completely different.

Zach Braff isn't aging well. I expected him to look like Garry Shandling's double by now.

I think it is OK. Women openly flirt with other women and it is accepted - men have traditionally been assigned a different role with behavior expectations and flirting with another guy was taboo.,

It is good to break traditional taboos when they are ridiculous.

Because women are less stigmatized by same sex attraction, I believe we see it less in mock. The taboo is much stronger in males, so there is more impact from breaking it in males.

I know a lot of lesbians who would disagree with this

Don't be daft. No one cares what lesbians think-- about anything.

Women are less stigmatized by same sex attraction because in a patriarchal society women, in general, hold no sway. They are lessers.

A lesbian who has no interest in serving/servicing men is of far less interest/concern.

A homosexual, in a patriarchal society, happily taking on women's roles/duties, from decorating to taking a load in the ass, is seen as a traitor - a threat to male dominance.

Oh, so we're just going to pretend anti-lesbian hate crimes, harassment, parental abandonment and "corrective rape" aren't a thing? Cool. Next time just say so.

I'm going to use my chaos magick to transform you into a lesbo and transport you to Bumblefuck, Alabama. Come back and let us know what an awesome time you had not being ostracized.
