FAUX News - It's a special kind of stupid...

It quasi informs and excites. As most Americans turn bitterly toward there own ideas as being the end of the argument they are more susceptible to believing tripe.

I too grew up devouring the news and have become so disgusted at what passes as news in this country.

I enjoy the BBC but I also enjoy simple factual reporting from the AP and Reuters.

Another thumbs up for the Beeb, they are an awesome news agency.

I don't have a lot of access to conventional network news sources in the US, so what I'm about to say is more cable-news focussed, but ... what the hell happened to American News?

In just 50 years, the US has gone from the brilliance of Edward R Morrow, the outstanding performance of Bernstein and Woodward ... to bimbo-anchored screaming matches, factless opinion spouting, and astoundingly obvious bias.

What happened? Sadly, I fear an (ex) countryman of my own is partly to blame, but why do you think Americans allow it? Why are you watching it?

Partly because since incomes have mostly been dropping since the 60s, the lower half of the income pyramid is too busy worrying about making ends meet to have time to actually think -- or the inclination. A thinking public must be a prosperous public, because otherwise they won't take the time to ponder things.
