Fast becoming one of my favorite players is Daniel Murphy.
What a great payer he is.
The Mets selected Murphy with their 13th round selection in the 2006 amateur draft out of Jacksonville University and then advanced Murphy to the FSL to begin the 2007 season. Murphy may be the best pure hitter in the Mets’ minor-league system,
A little over a week ago, Murphy was a third baseman trying to learn how to play second base at Class AA Binghamton. On Wednesday night, Murphy was making his second consecutive start in left field in the majors. His performance in the field was solid and his approach at the plate really impresses me.
In particular his patience, ya don’t see that a lot with the new kids. In his first appearance he was 3 for 5, with a triple and two singles. Thursday, he went 1 for 2 with a run-scoring single and two walks. I mentioned his patience which was evident here, he ran up the pitch count for San Diego’s starter and bullpen, facing 23 pitches on the night.
I really like him in the #2 hole, he was born to play there.
What he has shown at the plate and what he has shown in the outfield is impressive to say the least and a hell-of-a- lot of fun to watch. He is currently batting .500
I love this kid!
