  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

Favorite documentaries?

Southern Comfort - about a female-to-male transgendered person and his friends and family living in the Deep South of the USA. He has had his breasts removed, but not his vagina. He dies of ovarian cancer.

It is an amazing movie and completely changed my view of transgendered people and human relationships in general.

Ken Burns. The Civil War. Incredible, epic work!

Wordplay was fun. Outfoxed and Wal-Mart: The High Cost of Low Price were frightening.

It looks like the DVD is already available on the chorus web site...I'm not sure if it is the same one:

Anything by Ken Burns, especially the history of New York City. This man could document the life of a paper clip and make it fascinating.

Also, Supersize Me and Fast Food Nation. They totally changed the way I eat and what I eat.

I like BBC documentaries and HBO documentaries.

I haven't seen many, but here's my list (off the top of my head...)

Streetwise
Joe Strummer: The Future Is Unwritten
Hookers On the Point (and its follow-ups)
Jesus Camp
The World At War
Going To Pieces: The Rise and Fall of the Slasher Film
Badasssss Cinema
The American Nightmare
Capturing the Friedmans

Also, maybe someone can help me out here. I'm trying to find a documentary about Times Square in either the 70's or 80's. I remember seeing it at a Kims Video in NYC about a month and a half ago, but I cannot find the movie since.
A guy filmed Times Square from either his apartment or office, and captured all sorts of things on film. Does anyone have any clue what doc I'm talking about?

This is a good one:

The Smartest Guys in the Room-- detailing the people behind Enron.

It was a chilling movie, focusing on the human aspect of the scandal and its causes and consequences. Not just a rundown of the events that occurred or a list of facts and figures. ..|

The Protagonists
Capturing The Friedman's
Super Size Me
An Inconvenient Truth
Small Town Gay Bar
Born Rich $$$$$
The Zapruder Film ( Kennedy's Asassination in Texas)
Common Threads: Stories From the Quilt

I almost forgot...The Celluloid Closet

I totally forgot that too. I saw that late one night when a kid. It was the first time I realized "Hey, it's ok to be gay. And there's lots more like me." :)

I can't believe I forgot about that.

FYI
The opening scene from An Inconvient Truth which shows the Polar ice caps falling into the sea was actually a scene that was taken 'The Day After Tomorrow'

I had a look at 9/11: The Falling Man, which I had already seen. But I didnt know that images of people falling on that day were removed from all images.
