I will say that I like how Princess Peach of the Mario series has evolved over the years. While she serves as the damsel in distress for most of the game still,she has shown in several games that push comes to shove, she can kick butt.
 
Sarah Kerrigan from Starcraft. I have never actually played the game but her story and characterisation are AMAZING.
